Netflix The Raid (US Remake) - Streaming TBA

From ComingSoon:

The Raid remake gets Frank Grillo to star & Joe Carnahan directing!

XYZ Films has posted a new video to Twitter in which actor Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Grey, The Purge franchise) and director Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team, Smokin’ Aces) announce they are boarding The Raid remake! Based on 2011’s Indonesian action sensation directed by Gareth Evans, the original was released in America as The Raid: Redemption and stars martial artists Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian (who later appeared in The Raid 2 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Check out the announcement below!

The Raid tells the story of an elite DEA FAST team that becomes trapped in a tenement run by a notorious drug lord, his two highly-violent martial arts killers, and a personal militia armed with machetes and machine guns. Stranded on the 6th floor with no way out, the team must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission.

Back in 2014, it was announced that Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) would helm the remake with Battleship, John Carter and Lone Survivor star Taylor Kitsch in the leading role and Brad Ingelsby writing the script.

As in 2014, the English-language remake of Gareth Evans’ The Raid will be made by XYZ Films, which produced the original film as well. Evans will produce the project alongside Carnahan. It is unknown who will pen the remake, although Carnahan will likely work on the screenplay.

Carnahan is still lined up to helm Sony Pictures’ threequel Bad Boys for Life with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. Grillo just completed a trio of films, including the action thriller Wheelman, Akiva Goldsman’s horror film Stephanie and the sci-fi flick Beyond Skyline.

TBF Dredd was basically a reimagining of the raid and was excellent, also the Departed was an excellent take on IA triology.

I'm hopeful this will be good but am also not getting my hopes to high.

Just as long as they go all out on it.
Nope..... The Raid was made by Garret Evans based on the script of Dredd that was leaked ;)
So Dredd is THE original, The Raid is the Asian remake and now some American claims he's doing a remake (of a remake) I just call it plagiarism ;)

No, as has been mentioned Dredd was already in production when the Raid was being made... Dredd started being made in November 2010, the Raid began production in March 2011. So certainly no ripping Off. Also bear in mind that a single location shoot is done mainly for financial reasons. So the plots were going to be similar and the same plot has been done before. Die Hard is the most famous example. So it's not an original idea by any means.

No idea why. The facts speak for themselves. Dredd was already in production before the raid so your guess is as good as mine. A lot of films are remakes of other film. Hard Target is a remake of The Most Dangerous Game. Aliens is a remake of Them!. A Fistful of Dollars is a remake and so on. Very very few original ideas in Hollywood.

Why o why

Not interested at all

The Edwards versions are the only versions and grillo will make this a cheese fest

He's only bearable in the 2 cap films

A lot of films go through what's known as development hell either with the script, finances or casting but I don't think anything will ever beat "Tears of a Clown". It's rare a film is considered so bad that the only copy is interned in a vault never to see the light of day under any circumstances....... Sadly The Raid won out at the box offices which is a shame as both films are excellent and Dredd unlike the 90's one deserved a second film.

I think it´s a good idea to bring an US-remake of this Indonesian genre-pearl. They can also bring an extended version of The Raid 2, because there are much scenes (you can watch them on Youtube) missing (f.e. The Gang War) and some of them were necessary to follow the story (The scene where Uwais attacks party-guests randomly to get arrested and then goes to jail). In the actual cut he suddenly is there and no one knows why. There´s also a video on YT that shows the the chorepgraphy of the prison-fight. These guys are awesome.
