Is it possible to have the red writing at the top of the thread .. applied to all other threads
or made as rule for the forum..
i for one find it annoying to scroll through many comments unrelated to the thread and just filled with angry rhetoric

ive had the dvd for ages
my first disney steel ..
i hope that maybe we can get a hint as to the embossing like we did with WFRR

I actually didn't think of something like this.

What it .... I receive a damaged steel, I can't ask for a free new copy as it is sold out at the moment. And I don't want a different steel, I want Aladdin

Typically retailers will hold back a certain quantity to replace items that go missing or arrive damaged. I would expect it to be no different in this case.

i never got these offer from zavvi, if a damaged oop steel arrived from them, they always tell me to take it or leave it.

Play.com used to do this all the time, and it's the mark of a responsible steelbook retailer.

If Zavvi isn't already doing this, or will soon, hopefully they are watching this thread.

This is very true, 6 months ago I didnt know what a steelbook was and now if you look in my pre-orders ive got over £150 worth!

Hehe, when i first started collecting i had a few in my collection from random buys (sweeney todd, terminator 2) and remember when i got hooked thinking thank god i got them when i did.

Steeler, I think what we try and do on this forum, that might be a bit different from other spots you have visited - is to not continually discuss all the negatives surrounding a release - page after page

I get your point. Keep short and to the point in these news threads, right? Apologies for digressing, but Disney releases tend to get me a bit carried away. It wasn't my intention to sound negative, and while I still think being critical about what you care about isn't always a bad thing, I'll do my best to respect your wishes.

However, speaking of the negatives: I may just be a newbie on this forum, but I've been quite surprised how certain people here seem to get away by some pretty mean-spirited comments here. Maybe they too need to visit an OMG! thread or three and blow of some steam so they can return here afterwards in a better mood.

__

Now back on topic. I contacted Zavvi to hear if the Aladdin steelbook had sold out. They said they were unable to tell me 'when they will have stock back in', so I guess that's just another way to say it's sold out, or they are just trying to spread the copies around.

This was noted to staff and mods yesterday. And what I would recommend to you, and all members - all you need to do is simply report the post if you find it offensive or troublesome. Click the "alert" icon and a moderator or staff member will evaluate the comment and proceed from there.

The icon I speak of is:

FYI - last time with WFRR, I believe Zavvi went through and cancelled some orders, as well as some card declines so there may be a point where some stock returns.

Please keep an eye on this thread for any alerts posted by mods or staff about stock numbers.

I don't think any retailer holds back stock for returns. Not a very wise business choice.

Having stock left over from returns though, that is a different story.

As one new collector to another, my wallet feels your pain, friend. I only really got into limited/collectible editions last year due to The Walking Dead zombie head. I started looking up similar types of packaging online and kept hearing rumblings about steelbooks on forums and through unboxing videos. Kind of snowballed from there.

It's actually 'worse' for me now that Zavvi's picking up the baton from Play, since they ship worldwide and I don't have to be as selective on what I order due to the process of group buys. But I'm mostly glad for it, since it looks like we're in store for some sweet Disney steels.

Play.com typically held back some copies for returns, for steelbooks.

Does this happen today with other retailers? I'm unsure, but if any retailer wants to cater to steelbook collectors, then holding some quantity back is a prudent choice.

that rings a bell, didnt that one seem to be sold out for a little while, then came back for a while.
can we hope for the same? could they just be going through the stock allocations, and perhaps when they get their numbers sorted it could come back.

re. my earlier comment about this not being one the more popular titles, to my mind, disney was better when Walt had a hand in things.
i would have thought the 'old classics' would trump the more recent titles.
the likes of dumbo, bambi, pinocchio, sleeping beauty, cinderella, aristocats...
although i must admit, i havent seen aladdin properly, nor lion king for that matter.
I am looking forward to watching this though, maybe i will think more of it after watching start to finish :D
i think though, if this one can sell out in less than a week, then pinocchio or dumbo wouldnt last a day :hilarious:

I am with you, I know Aladdin was not part of Disney's Diamond lineup and it almost seems like they under appreciate the title. Why? No clue, Aladdin is one of my favorite hand drawn Disney titles. I met one of the artist who used to hand draw for Disney, this was like 8 yrs ago. She told me some cool anecdotes about the production of Aladdin. Hand drawn still trumps CGI :p

I am not a Disney expert in any way but the Pinocchio and Dumbo blu-rays have been released and re-released for a few years now. Meanwhile this is the first time Disney is releasing the blu-ray Diamond edition of Aladdin (Germany has announced the amaray release in a few weeks). We are waiting for the blu-rays of Little Mermaid, Tarzan and The Jungle Book - all hand drawn classics. I suspect the "delay" is because these classics are being treated with extra care for their hi-def releases instead of being under appreciated. Hopefully we will see another wave of Disney US steelbooks headlined by Little Mermaid and Aladdin soon.
