I liked Florida project but I much much preferred this. Not seen Tangerine or Red Rocket yet

Don't particularly love the rear, but it's better than a sh!tty symbol or quote (or nothing) in the centre.

Which ones did you (actually) watch?

Not sure I've ever seen someone describe Red Rocket, Tangerine or Florida Project as "empty pretentious artsy stuff".
Exactly those, but I'm being exaggeratingly 'provocative' out of nothing, kinda like those 'movies'... :naughty:

feel far more real and grounded
Too grounded, as entertaining,as looking outta a window to the streets... maybe that was the point, just not for me.

Yikes, that steelbook back looks really bad and doesn't fit the movie at all. That plus the subtitle problem I'll either wait for another premium or just get the Criterion.

how it won even a single oscar amazes me.....
In the 90's I complained that movies such as this, and The Substance, don't even get nominated.
Now that they do, everything else is a pile of crap, and best movies still don't get nominated... :banghead:

Neon put a lot of money and effort into the Oscar campaign push from very early on once they picked it up. Not that I want to discredit what it did or won, but it's hard to ignore the potential impact of that. Looks like they're doing the same with Joachim Trier's new movie too (which makes me feel conflicted as I adore his Oslo trilogy and would love to see Sentimental Value do well, but on its own merits).
