I've seen on eBay for a number of games that you can buy the steelbook case (occasionally with dlc codes) without any discs. Has anyone had experience with buying these? What's the story with them - why are there so many empty steelbook cases available to sell, or is it likely that I'll receive a plain steelbook case with stickers on?

its legit .... a lot of empties was the case with game steelbooks as pre-order bonus'

I have bought a couple, and yeah they are legit. Often people will just take the discs out and sell the steelbooks alone to try and make a quick buck. Some games, like assassin's creed syndicate (EU version), come with both the standard amaray case and a empty steelbook.
