March 12, 2009 - Last year, Electronic Arts introduced players to a world of mercenaries, co-operative gameplay and gold plated automatic weapons. Army of Two took players on a globetrotting adventure where you needed to use co-op strategy with your partner to survive various hotspots. As Salem and Rios, two ex-Army Rangers turned mercenaries, you battle through different warzones to uncover a conspiracy that could threaten America and the world. But there's no rest for these two soldiers, as today Electronic Arts announced the sequel to the co-op action game. Army of Two: The 40th Day reunites Salem and Rios as they're forced to survive in a city under siege.

The story of The 40th Day places Salem and Rios in the middle of Shanghai, China, as a disaster of epic proportions strikes the city. While they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, they are the right men to react to the chaos. As they fight their way through ruined districts of the city, they discover more and more catastrophes are being orchestrated to devastate Shanghai piece by piece. It's up two Salem and Rios to uncover the secret of the 40th Day and survive the chaos.

"With Army of Two: The 40th Day, we're pushing the tactical two-man military team into new battlegrounds offering a completely organic and rich co-op experience to deliver an action-packed co-op shooter this winter," said Reid Schneider, executive producer at EA Montreal. "As chaos blankets Shanghai, China, you must rely on your partner to survive as you weave through a broken city left devastated in a mysterious wake."

Army of Two: The 40th day will include more co-op moves for players to use at any time, which will allow for completely different strategies and options in battle. According to EA, the expansion of co-op moves will create a bigger, more organic and immersive co-op experience. Army of Two: The 40th day will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP this winter.

Enlisting in Army of Two: The 40th Day
Big trouble in big China.

March 13, 2009 - A flooded city, a government conspiracy and a myriad of bullets – when players last saw Elliott Salem and Tyson Rios, they had been busy battling their way through Army of Two, Electronic Arts' co-op action game. The two mercenaries faced incredible odds and battled their way through a number of seemingly impossible situations, including the sinking of an aircraft carrier and a major hurricane that obliterated an American city. It seemed as though the two frequently found themselves in the wrong place in the wrong time. But now, thanks to the recent announcement of Army of Two: The 40th Day, Salem and Rios will find themselves under siege, avoiding wide scale destruction and tracking down a mystery that threatens to destroy them both. At a press event in Montreal, I got a chance to check out the upcoming title to see just what it will be about.

The first Army of Two game was a large departure for EA Montreal, both in the sense of the franchise being a new IP and the heavy focus on co-op play. While this was commercially acclaimed, the title would up being savaged by some critics, something that Alain Tascan, the Vice President and General Manager of EA Montreal wanted to make sure was addressed. "What are the core elements that made people like it, and what where the core elements that made some experts not like it? We added a few things that were just a distraction to the game – for some people it was the taunts, for some people, it was the setting, for some people, it was the level of polish. We definitely said, 'Okay, we want to keep our fan base and not disappoint them and not go in a direction that is different,' but we also want to make sure that we're showing the sequel to critics that will appreciate it this time."

AoTwo: The 40th Day shows promise in latest screens

Earlier this month, Electronic Arts revealed their upcoming sequel to Army of Two entitled The 40th Day. While the original installment was underwhelming to say the least, though the game certainly delivered on a co-op experience amongst friends. Judging from the recent batch of screens, the sequel appears to be shaping up rather well – color us impressed.

New Army of Two: The 40th Day trailer gets serious

A new trailer for Army of Two: The 40th Day has surfaced (embedded after the break via GameVideos). The quality of the video isn't fantastic (a promised high-def version is premiering tonight on GameTrailers TV, for you videophiles), but there's still plenty of information to soak up. You'll get to see Shanghai being overrun by the so-called 40th Day Initiative, which is apparently laying waste to everything and everyone in sight. One thing we noticed very quickly is that the tone of the trailer is very serious. The buddy comedy vibe present in trailers for the original Army of Two is almost completely absent, save for a single modest one-liner at the end.

Oh, and don't worry, there are plenty of explosions too.

I would only play army of two with another person...

(If you want the megathread setup, I can make a wordpad file with the code that you can keep. Also if no info is given, just do a N/A, or omit the boxart for the time being. Not being anal here just some helpful hints.)

It was just a suggestion, its to make it simpler, so you didnt have to remember the sizes/bolds/centering, just copy and paste, then fill in the details that are missing.

Its a way to make the Megathreads OP to look nice, you can do it however, but it was just to make things easier for you.

Pre-E3 2009: Army of Two: 40th Day Hands-on
2 guys 1 blown-to-hell city.

May 26, 2009 - Up until a few days ago, I hadn't paid much attention to Army of Two: The 40th Day. Sure, Rios and Salem are back, they're in Shanghai during a disaster and there is more crap to shoot than you can shake a stick at, but none of that got my blood pumping. Then, I sat down and got to play some co-op action. Now, I'm not telling you that this sequel is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it was pretty damn impressive to be shooting bad guys in a Shanghai high-rise as the roof above my head got ripped off and thrown to the ground below.

I played the first one. The pimped out guns were cool, but I couldn't play it AT ALL around my kids. Just too much language in it. I know. I'm a prude. It's not the first time someone's told me that. ;)

+1

im with you darth. i dont have any kids yet, but when/if i do, ill keep them away from language heavy movies/tv/games. they'll eventually hear it all, and i am starting to hear lots of stories from elementary school teachers about their 3rd grade students swearing at them. call me prude too :D

To be honest, I just dont see the need for extreme swearing in video games ... I hate how in certain partsof KZ2 they would say F&8K alot ...

damn and ass is fine by me, but it doesnt add quality to a game to me ...

I thought the first army of 2 sucked by the way.

I esp hate games where you cant control the cussing ... like when just extras in the game say F*(K and stuff...

like Saints Row and GTA and stuff ... walking down a street and you cant control what the extras say or know its coming.

id hafta agree here. excessive swearing really isnt necessary in games. i can understand a little bit here and there for comedic purposes, but that should be about it.

Well good. I'm glad I'm not the only one. That's why I got rid of Uncharted originally. I LOVED the game, but couldn't ever play it around the boys. It'd be all quiet in my house, and in the game, and then someone would break out w/ Son of a b**ch!! Then I'd get "that look" from my boy, and feel all guilty and stuff. :emb:

hehe....here in my younger days, younger then 13 i was playin alllll the sweet swearing games let alone the rap album's i played....it has no effect..!..lol.

so how about teaching who ever is around its not good to start copying sheeat.....i'm just glad i found it as entertainment & never went around like a Sheep saying it to friends or Teachers...not cool ya clowns.

but it was fun playing Doom & Wolfenstein 3D being 9 or so....killin Nazi's and hearing them dying hitting the ground..*F(_)ck!!*....lol
but my best memory was playing Duke Nuke'em on Pc...there was Parts with Strippers & Boobs...duke would say..*Wanna Dance* giving a money bills and the tits would show :D...& Porno Stores in the game..woo...Ass Cheeks and all in the booths.

and lot more.
