Ubisoft?s Assassin?s Creed has quickly become one of the hottest intellectual properties of this generation. Leaving aside its obvious credentials as an immersive, explorative, stealth-flavored adventure romp, Assassin?s Creed has also garnered critical acclaim for its jaw-dropping visuals, ranging from sprawling cityscapes, evocative sunsets and meticulously rendered character models.

Given this immense visual showcase, and with a sequel on the horizon, we?ve cobbled together a selection of high quality comparison shots of both the original Assassin?s Creed and its eagerly awaited follow-up to illustrate the visual leap between both games. We?ve done our best to find shots of similar origin in both titles in order to give you an idea of how Ubisoft?s stealthy series is progressing since its inception in 2007. Check them out below.

GameStop is giving away the Palazzo Medici with a pre-order of Assassin's Creed 2. The bonus location for the stealth game is available with the purchase of either the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions of the game. Both online and in-store customers will receive the code when the title releases.

The Palazzo Medici Ricardi is, like, a totally famous place and stuff. So, exploring it in the game for treasure is far more liberating and cheaper than flying to Florence and checking out the real thing. We also believe that in the real building that they won't let you climb up the walls and sneak around. Although, we can't confirm that.

This is pretty damn cool! I'll go ahead and pre-order this.

Ubisoft has confirmed via a Q&A session on the company’s forums that stealthy sequel Assassin’s Creed 2 will last players more than 20 hours, surpassing the length of the original game.

Said the company: “We have greatly increased the scope of the game since the first instalment of Assassin’s Creed, so just completing the core of the game will be longer than the 20 hours it took in the first game.”

In addition, the firm also divulged that a series of optional gameplay elements will be introduced, which will significantly expand upon the game’s longevity in a ‘meaningful way.’

“Moreover, we have developed several different optional gameplay that will add a lot of depth to the whole experience and will also extend your gameplay time in a very significant and meaningful way. As for the exact number of hours it will require it’s still too early to say!"

Assassin’s Creed 2 will be hitting shops for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on November 17, 2009.

Assassin's Creed 2 DLC priced, detailed

If you didn’t get your fill of Ezio’s adventure and feel like you missed something in his DNA sequence, Ubisoft will have some answers in January and February provided by downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed 2. Today, Ubisoft released price points for both DLC packs.

As if there isn’t enough to do in the game, with tons of side quests to complete, the Battle of Forli and Bonfire of the Vanities downloadable content packs will help to fill gaps in Ezio’s DNA Sequences missing from the original storyline of AC 2. Sequence 12: Battle of Forli will cost $3.99 USD, while Sequence 13: Bonfire of the Vanities will cost $4.99 USD.

The Battle of Forli will include six new memories that task Ezio with helping Machiavelli and Caterina Sforza to defend Forli from the nasty Orsi Brothers. The goal is to keep a Piece of Eden from landing into Templar possession. Perhaps the most exciting prospect is getting another ride in Leonardo’s flying machine.

The Bonfire of the Vanities gives gamers a new place to explore in Florence and gives Ezio the new spring-jump move.

Ubisoft's Financial Update Reveals Upcoming Assassin's Creed Multiplayer Mode

In Ubisoft's financial update for its third fiscal quarter (yes, the one that saw RUSE get delayed), towards the end of the press release Ubisoft makes mention of an upcoming Assassin's Creed multiplayer mode.

The press release states that coming in 2010 is "a new episode of Assassin’s Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode."

No more details at the moment, but keep your eyes peeled and we'll keep you updated when we hear more.

We only have one question now... actually, maybe two.

Is the single player game not sacred anymore? And how the hell is multiplayer going to work in Assassin's Creed anyway? I can't say I'm intrigued or even care, it's hardly a franchise that needs multiplayer.

Is there a date for this? this game was awesome!

New Assassin's Creed?

Unsurprisingly, Ubisoft is targeting its new, multiplayer-enhanced Assassin's Creed game at the six million of us who bought Assassin's Creed 2. An Ubisoft rep told CVG that the new game will "take place with the same hero, which is Ezio, and will follow-up the story that took place in Assassin's Creed 2."

This, combined with the new multiplayer, makes us believe that the new game will be a spin-off and not Assassin's Creed 3 -- since, presumably, a full-on sequel would highlight a new assassin and a new time period. Oh, and if you were worried that you weren't going to be able to pay $60 for it, you can rest easy: CEO Yves Guillemot said that the game will be sold at a "full price point".

Interesting.

I guess the writer was just being sarcastic?
