If you're saying what I think you're saying - that all steelbooks that Zavvi sells are "rotten" - then what in God's name are you even doing in a Zavvi steelbook thread?
You may not be aware but FYI there are literally hundreds of absolutely gorgeous U.K. steelbooks sold not just by Zavvi or HMV or Amazon and now by Zoom . . . and I take it personally when people like you and those of your ilk come on these U.K. threads and run down U.K. steelbook . . . and it beggars belief that people think it logical and sensible to compare a 23 quid steelbook to one that costs twice as much with slipcovers etc. At least compare like for like or wait until U.K. steelbooks cost 50 quid and then and only them make your comparisons or else all comparisons are odious.
I don't need to list or post images of great U.K. steelbooks but a handful of my favourites won't do any harm:-

1) What Zavvi recent lenticular wave? You're calling 4 steelbooks releases a wave?! (ANT-MAN, AGE OF ULTRON, THE HULK and THE INCREDIBLE HULK). I suppose it can be described as a wave comparable to the lenticular wave of something like 8 steelbooks from the tail-end of 2015 IF and only if you include those few that have not yet been released - i.e. the upcoming 3 SPIDER-MAN steels and the 2 from Disney LION LING and FINDING NEMO - thus making a grand total of 9 and then worthy of the "wave" title.
It goes without saying that we don't know how those 5 (or more than half of the recent wave) are going to look in the flesh so maybe a tad early jumping the gun and condemning them IMO.
Of the lenticular steelbook releases in the U.K. this year "Ant-Man" and "Ultron" are clearly and without doubt the least successful.
The 2 "Hulk" steelbooks have brilliant full height lentis.
The 2 "Spider-Man" steels from HMV have equally brilliant (framed) lentis.
Fingers crossed for the three SM steels and the 2 Disney animation steels . . . full height or framed ?
2) Yes indeed . . . quite so.
3) If you check back a few pages you'll see that someone paid 52 quid for the BF steelbook as against 23/25 quid for the Zavvi . . . you do the maths . . . and, yes, comparisons are odious when comparing something that costs more than twice as much as the thing it's being compared to..
Looking forward to seeing in-hand pics of both in the relevant threads.A lot of us have paid £51 for the recent blu fans antman and and the age of ultron steel that
Should be on the way to us now.
Just check out the video on the second from last page in the ultron blu fans thread for the lenti. You will notice how different the lentis are compared to this wave and also the beautiful finish on the steel.
Not meaning to sound patronising but check it out. It's incredible. You also have to remember that $12 of that price is shipping (about £10 with the current pound).
Asian steels always cost about £10-£15 more than say a full price U.K. Marvel steel but it's worth it with what you get
I didn't like it all when it first arrived but it's grown on me since then it's not that bad really! (Did that sound convincing?)

Saturday October 29th 6pm BST
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be back in stock
If you don't like something, you don't buy it. I think everyone here knows that. (That's why I have been passing those uninspiring WWA of Dinsey all the time already, and it's OK).
So here is what I think where the problem is: Zavvi fails to communicate their products to their customers. And this is definitely Zavvi's responsibility, not Marvel's.
If we are able to see the final BS (including Lenti) from the beginning , people can decide BEFORE pulling the trigger and won't be surprised on delivery. All the premium retailers have being doing that all the time, showing even live pics or videos before release, why can't Zavvi?
So, I rather pay 52 EUR for something I like than 24 EUR for something I don't like, because in this case every Cent is too much.
I think the same thing, even if zavvi are unaware of all the artwork etc till it turns up in their warehouse then what they can do when it does arrive is open one copy, take photos and either update their own website pic's or share the photos with hdn or on their social media page etc.. giving us at least a week to cancel once we see what we are really paying for

Yes, I agree but Zavvi probably wouldn't wait a week for live pics (if they actually cared that much to take them) for us to evaluate them. They start shipping the items as soon as they are available so we are stuck with poor artwork/finish, etc. Maybe some day in the future they'll delay the release date for a week to share live pics of steelbooks with us but that's just wishful thinking.

Blige, a little touchy aren't we? I'm only commenting on Zavvi's recent lenti wave, not ALL uk steels.
What am i doing in this thread? The same thing i'm doing in the AOU blufans thread - I'm a Marvel fan. The last time i checked this was a forum for discussion.
Oh, and don't call any product comparison "odious", as someone else already mentioned, this release is only a fiver cheaper than the average FAC.

They could definitely do something to be more steelbook customer friendly to give us more info.. the place that manufacturers the steelbooks know the full art for each steelbook, would it be so hard for an email to be sent to the retailer's lol.. zavvi could do something about it but choose not to.. probably because it could affect their sales if the steelbook is under par. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't have the arrogance to name themselves 'the home of steelbook's'
It may be us wishful thinking for them to actually care about the products they're selling and us, the loyal steelbook customers but it really wouldn't be too hard for them to get more info at production stage so they can pass the info onto us.
People say you can't judge/compare a £25 steelbook to a £50 (£10 of which is shipping so £40) blufans release (of course not..or can we? ) we can compare the ways in which these company's treat it's customers when it comes to information. Zavvi charged £25 for this and ant man and we've received nothing in the way of information and yet zavvi are perfectly happy to just go with that as they are "just a retailer" so it's not up to them when the reality is, if they wanted to they could find out more info but they'd rather just sit back and take our £50 (for the 2 SB's) without a second thought.
one of the issues is the amount of money they charge when you're very nearly blind buying their steelbook's.. you have blufans (or any Asian premium SB retailer) asking £40 (not considering the shipping) and what do they do in comparison, they walk us through every aspect, right from the beginning by letting us know which title they've had the ok to produce and if their art choices have been ok'd or rejected, next we get artwork and finish of the steelbook then come all the slips available and goodies etc etc.. we even sometimes see the Asian retailers show us the prints for the slips before they've even been made up.. and we feel like they're trying their best to give us collectors something special and all this for just £15 more than what zavvi charge... if blufans or the like were to forget all the slips and goodies and just sold their steelbook's on their own (so take that £15 off the price for all the extras) to match zavvi's bare bones steelbook's at £25 each then we could compare them like for like..I've got uk and premium marvel steelbook's and for most of the premium steels you can actually see a difference in quality just by looking at them displayed on the shelf next to each other, I'm talking about the steelbooks not the slips, even forgetting the price difference play.com and hmv both made stunning marvel steelbook's back in the day that were miles better than some of these zavvi offerings, we know it's possible to make great steelbook's at a decent price, just look at zavvi's disney collection, when we know what's possible it's an even bigger slap in the face to get such a messed up steel as this AOU and for such a high price, just look at the guaranteed quality difference and attention to detail with the steelbook from other retailers .. and all we're asking zavvi to do as a retailer is to get the info on the artwork and finish from the manufacturer while they're printing them.. just an email, its simple isn't it?

Not that anyone here has much interest in this steelbook it's back with a bunch of returns (lol) according to the message from Zavvi at 18:25

I paid £23 for this and £52 for Blufans. Both includes shipping. I am sure 95% of us paid the same. That's a difference of £29. Try reselling the Blufans and you will be struggling to get your money back nowadays thanks to the weak £.
So many in the UK have stopped importing and trying their luck in eBay or in forums. Only serious collectors with good disposable income are still importing. Those who resell are taking a huge hit which won't be the case with UK releases especially MCU. You somehow get your money back or even more if you want to offload few months down the line once they go OOS.
I am a huge fan of.Blufans.They are still the #1 Premium retailer for me. I will still try to buy their releases as long as I can afford. I passed some titles as I knew it would sell for less outside GB and I was able to get them from eBay for 20% lower price.
Zavvi doesn't care much. They just want to sell and cater to the casual collectors who don't bother too much about attention to detail. HDN also has some good.relationship with them but doesn't seem to.have much influence.
Ultimately we all.have to vote with our wallets.
