Hey guys-the discussion of liking or not liking the Blu-Ray banners on Steelbook art work started in the 'Immortals'(NL) thread. Since we have collectors who started when banners were more common, or jumped into the hobby later, I am adding a new thread so you can share your thoughts-Digitalbabe, Staff

Have fun! :scat:

From Mayflower-

Every steelbook seem to have their own con...

Hard-core movie enthusiast MUST have un-cut version of the movie or else it's a no-no :) I personally love the front of the NL version, plus it has 3D (a must-have) and the un-cut version. It's a no brainer for me to pick it up for $35 shipped. I'm disappointed that it might not have inside artwork, but then again, UK doesn't have un-cut version. The French version has forced sub and cut version, the Canada version has no 3D and cut version. Nothing is perfect, but I gotta go with my favorite front artwork which is the one that I'm going to display.

I like 2 piece bikinis :p

Actually if the UK version wasn't cut that one to me would be the clear cut winner. I think the back on that one is the nicest.

And I am still weary as to whether or not there is inside artwork if that was just the picture... :squint:

May, I am not a banner 'collector' but I understand why you like them. I have 'Troy' with Blu banner. Though I was never super into the banners (personally I always felt they took away from the art), but if you're into getting the '1st' original release, etc etc, than those with banners are the ones to have for some of these. And as you said, 'whatever makes you happy' as a collector:) For these, I think the banner and gold designs are pretty unique. Goes with look and feel of films, for me:)

yep, I like them because those are the original design that came out for blu-ray steelbook. I find myself chasing after the 1st press release now just because I want to own the original design. I just wish they were consistent in releasing it with blu-banner across all blu-ray steelbook. Without the blu-banner, new collectors are going to say "is that blu-ray or dvd steelbook?" I don't hate non blu-banner, but I would go out of my way to pay extra money for those releases. :D With any collectible hobby, collectors are going to pay premium for the 1st press releases or early releases.

You got it-not sure if he Blu banners will be continued forever as many people do not like them, but good luck with the hunt-all part of the fun! :scat:

wow these are really awesome! for me the banner doesn't bug me at all, depending on the design it goes or not...here is totally right..it's going to be really hard to decide between the first design and the French one....since i ordered both ;)

Without the blu-banner, new collectors are going to say "is that blu-ray or dvd steelbook?"

if this is a matter of buying in store, just needs a paper, like for the futureshop..
if this is a matter of artwork etc on the net , it is written blu ray(title on the steel, topic etc and/or in the text), at worst , they can easily ask on the net..

About the "first releases", i really do not care at all which year was the steel made/if this is a first or second print etc.. i only take account the esthetic, a banner has nothing to add in this field for me .. :/

Hey Ricker-people are jumping into this hobby at different times all the time:) Everyone is a 'noob' at some time:)

It depends on the steelbook for me. I don't mind a plain banner. I think it sometimes adds to the design other times I think it takes away. I don't always like steels with clean art as they seem to be boring and have no character.

The most famous Blu-ray banner steelbook, must be I am Legend. People pay a lot for that steelbook. Everything is the same as the re-release except the banner.

I like both with and none banner. :)

If you look at the most of the sought after steels they all got the blu ray banner i like the blu ray banner on some it make the steelbook and others it would not suit.

My favorite SB's have no writing at all on them (except the spine of course).

I don't need movie titles or actor names on cover to tell me what movie it is. The cleaner the better to me.

I'd understand the banner more if they were uniform, but they come in all different styles & shapes, so they actually detract from the covers imo.

i think one can't imply that there 's a cause and effect relation.
since the ones you talk about (to my knowledge at least) are quite "old" and that more blu banner steels(in terms of %)were released than now
so it 's not surprising for me that those steels( that are pretty rare now),are with a banner(since there was more steels with a banner)

I don't mind the original Blu banners, but anything other than that (like double/triple play banners) are just plain ugly. The main thing I like about the BD banner is people who aren't collector's can still immediately identify the steelbook as being a Blu-ray. However, I do prefer steels to be as clean as possible and have nothing but artwork on them. :D

Completely agree with that but then again im late in to collecting

Each to theyre own i guess :D

Although too early for any definitive result, the voting so far shows a very strong preference for clean cover. Times are a-changing.

anyone who prefer clean artwork and have some blu-banner steelbook laying around in your collection. Please, send them my way for retail price. I'll do you a favor by taking them all from you :)

I voted for a clean cover as that's what I prefer on new Steels. However, I do recognize the collectability of some of the originals that had banners (Dark Knight, I Am Legend, etc.) and would prefer those to the reprints that lacked the banners.

But for new Steels like The Thing, Scarface, etc., I'm glad they don;t have banners!
