Strike me down with furious anger, BUT... I actually prefer this series to the original series. As much as I love that as well. They both have their merits.

Let's ignore the most recent sequel. That follow on arc to the original and this was tragic. The 3d animation sucked, yet the story was phenomenal. Such a weird choice to animate it that way.

This set is great though. I'll be buying this.
Didn't this series get edited into a movie trilogy as well? Are they included too?

Edit: no. It's the the thirteen episode series not the movies.

This is the 3 films/ovas edited together with some small additions. The general consensus is this is a small but solid improvement on the originals, no?

Yep, after Miura passed away the three movies were re-edited into this 13 episode series. New animation, edits and such. I hadn't seen the movies before watching this series so I couldn't comment on what is better here than what came before.
As a newcomer to Berserk at the time, I had no problems with pacing or editing. Yes, we lose a lot of character development compared the the OG Berserk series but it's condensed in a really solid way.
To be honest, nothing compares to the Manga anyway. That is peerless

Be like me and don't buy this but buy this THIS instead
You'll be enjoying that a lot more than a steelbook

OG or Golden Arc? definitely Golden arc, the 2016 3D was weird, I liked the story but damn that 3D animation, and those ''CLANG CLANG CLANG'' sounds each time Guts hits ANYTHING with his sword was ridiculous.:shipped:
They should give us something new already, we've been waiting long enough.

No. That Black Knight Arc/Berserker Arc series from 2016 was such a let down. The story was always the best bit, you can't beat the narrative, it was the animation that was abysmal.
As you say "Clang Clang" every time the sword swings. Every character was designed to look like a mashed potato. Some of the worst CGI in animation I've ever seen.

Still, the story survived through it all. Testament to Kentaro Miura.
How that sh*t ever got past him I'll never know!
He was still around when that series was made.

As for The Golden Age arc, I'd have say my favourite is this memorial series.

Really like that steel but everything Berserk after the original steel confuses me and I’ve obviously not watched any of the newer stuff lol

It's just a retelling of the original series (The Golden Age Arc) with animation from the last 10-15 years instead of 1997.
It's slightly shorter than the original series but has exactly the same story beats.

New animation. New studio. Same story. Basically it's a remake of a remake of a manga story arc.

Oh wow that’s mental!

Is the newer animation any good?

Depends on your viewpoint. It's got a mix of traditional and slightly iffy CGI.
Personally, I think it's better than the Original series but that one also holds some nostalgia for me.
As far as animation then it's night and day compared to the older version but it really does depend on how you view animation styles.

If you're intrigued, I'd say just look it up on the internet and, you know...torrent it first before buying. Not that I condone that sort of cheek. ;).
Nothing better than try before you buy. Rules to live by...purely for research purposes only.

Look up the Memorial arc 13 episode TV series (2022). Not the individual trilogy of films. Golden Age Arc 1-3 (2012-2013)
They recut the cut films and added new footage after the authors death but it's the same content.

But avoid the 2016-2017 TV series. It's atrocious. That's actually a new story arc but the animation is god awful.

It's been many many (many) years but I recall the Golden arc films being good and an improvement on the original TV series which cut a lot of content from the Manga.
