Is bonus material/extras on a bluray such a big deal to you? Well it is to me because I like to find out more about my favorite films such as behind the scenes, documentary's and interviews with cast and crew and more..

We take it for granted that the new bluray steelbook editions coming out now have more extras or bonus material than older bluray or DVD editions.
Is this true? NO!

I have noticed that some of the older bluray and even DVD steelbook editions such as Iron Man DVD steelbook 2008 US edition has a lot more bonus material/extras than the latest Iron Man bluray steelbook 2012 from Play.com as an example.

That is why I have kept my old Iron Man DVD steelbook 2008 US Edition and why I started this thread to help other people who want lots of extras with there films to help choose the best edition and not payout extra money for more than one edition just to get more extras.

I noticed that Iron Man DVD steelbook 2008 US Edition has a lot more extras than the latest Iron Man bluray steelbook 2012 from Play.com.

The Kings Speech - Blu-ray Viva Metal Box China 2012 Ltd Ed

This is a lovely edition with its bright yellow metal case and insides, but does not have much in the way bonus material, not even a documentary behind the scenes or telling the real story

Although this blu-ray is 8 min longer than my 2 disc DVD edition from 2001, the DVD edition has way more bonus material than this bluray and both dvd and bluray are released by Warner Brothers?

I agree, I prefer picking the steelbook version with the most bonus material with the bluray -
such as Avengers DE.

this is partly the reason why i stopped buying these newer steelbooks. all the releases of older titles are ditching the bonus discs. I'd rather have the complete package on my shelf rather than a budget release

Saving Private Ryan
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Hellboy II
Forrest Gump
Transformers
Mission Impossible 3
Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol
Doctor Zhivago
Ben Hur
Star Trek
Watchmen
Alien Anthology
Gone with the Wind
X-Men

all steelbook releases that are missing 1 or more bonus discs

This is something I feel strongly about, too. It's one of my pet peeves on an amaray even when they add "trailers" as a special feature or even nothing at all. When blu-ray came out, it was one of the main marketing points that they had more extras than DVDs. I know there's probably not much of a calling for extras in Indie movies, however, as a film fan I'm just frustrated when I pick up a low budget movie which is only releases on DVD and has NO extras. Sorry..I know this strayed a little off-topic, I just feel cheated as a fan when this happens.

Can we call for any re-releases in future to have either the same bonus features OR more as standard :p

I love Blu Ray Steelbooks
Why do fox and others include the movie on dvd
At this stage anyone buying blu ray steelbook will have a blu ray player
I would like the steelbook to only have blu ray
and if a 2 disc steelbook include the extras disc and not the dvd
Now if there was no blu ray extras disc released for a film and there was on dvd that has extras not on the blu ray release include the dvd extras disc
It also would make any inside art look better if blu ray has all the extras on 1 disc
I like my steelbook to include the movie and extras
Fox releases for example give you the movie on blu ray and movie on dvd
x-men and braveheart for example would have been better steelbook if it had both blu ray discs movie and extras
I want to see future blu ray steelbooks only have blu ray discs and were there was 2 blu ray discs standard release give the same discs in the steelbook
What do others think about steelbook including a dvd but dropping the blu ray extras disc

I completely agree that the Steelbook should have all the discs.

This trend was seen in new releases too:

Cars 2 KR Steelbook had all 3 discs whereas all the other Asian release didn't include the bonus BD

Cars 2 (2D) UK - 1 disc Vs. Sweden 2 disc

Avengers VIVA - Misses the bonus disc. FS one is supposed to be 4 or 5 disc but it still didn't include the bonus BD.

Worst offender is Star Wars set - It misses 3 discs which were included in the Saga followed by Alien Anthology which doesn't contain the 2 bonus discs. If the case can't fit more than 4 discs then it can be issued separately in Amaray case or in a sleeve. Even more worse is using recycled disc with old transfer when new one is available.

Even the super expensive Avengers phase one set is missing IM1 and IM2 bonus disc.

The bonus discs are a definite draw for me, although to be honest, I rarely have the time to view the extra content. Still, I'm a discerning consumer, and I hate to have a lesser product on the shelf ;)

HAvent i been Sayin It?

I love watching dvd and blu-ray extras. I think Inferno: The Making of 'The Expendables and From the Ashes: Postproduction is way better the film itself.

Haha, I don't doubt that! ;)

I know some people say that of 'Heart of Darkness' as well...and if 'Apocalypse Now' wasn't so damn good, I'd join them. :p
