I can get it for $215 from Intel (I love working at Best Buy).

 :p

oh snap EEK!

does that thing overclock well? and while i think 6 cores is complete overkill, at that price. who the hell cares. but yeah..anything over 4 cores is useless right now imo

exactly it's hella overkill, but this thing will last forever! And that was my goal when building the PC. Just have to wait until December 1st to order the CPU. And I'm going to check BF and cyber monday for the best prices on the components I picked out.

Still deciding between the 460 and a 5850 as my graphics card.

seriously tho..wtf does anyone need 6 or 8 cores for? why are they even bothering lol

i've been using a quad core for close to a year now. never slows down, wtf do i need 2 or 4 more cores for? give me more MEGAHURTZ

multi-tasking and playing a video game.. lol

i know there is one thing that i for sure want to hop onto soon, and thats ssd. i feel like my current rig is fast enough to keep me happy for at least another year. but the slow hard drives, something needs to be done about that.

just need those ssd's to hit under a dollar/gig

I can get a 160GB SSD for $215...

I just don't see a reason for the extra 100GB, when I only want to use the SSD as my OS drive, and keep everything else on a 1TB HDD.

As for HDD's aren't they limited by how fast they go and therefore doesn't matter if it's SATA 3gb/s or SATA 6gb/s... aren't SSD's the only ones that can actually use the SATA 6gb/s to it's fullest.

while that's an excellent deal for an ssd, still too rich for me to bother. i think 160gb is just about the sweet spot tho. i'd want my os and all my installed programs running off the ssd, and all my media running off a hdd.

os is only going to take up what..10gb? that leaves a lot of room for all your program and gaming needs. plus the extra bit of space the ssd allocates for garbage clean up and what not

and yeah, hdd's will never hit that 3gbs limit lol

So why was I looking for a HDD w/ sata 6gb/s over sata 3gb/s? like you said earlier, lol.

OS I think is 20gb on Windows 7 x64... So 40gb to install programs, and 1TB for all my games, music, and videos.

Nice. Good to see you upped the RAM and went with the i7.

Now I want one.

upped the ram because the i7 is a triple ram setup, where as the i5 is a double ram setup. You really don't need over 4gb of DDR3 unless you are playing with CAD or photoshop.

And only went with the i7 because i got it via working at best buy, otherwise my first setup as an actual consumer is what I would have gone with.

The i7 was def a good call. I have the i7 860 on my new comp and multitasking doesnt slow it down one bit. Yesterday(while I was supposed to be writing a paper) I had 3 webapages open, a PDF file, Word, was buffering dubstep.fm through windows media, and playing starcraft all at the same time. Processor peaked over 50% like 3 times :D

There have been times where I was running a bunch of crap and had to DL something and I thought I would have to close some stuff first - but no. It was still barely even trying. It's overkill for most of what I do, but it's nice to have the power in reserve, plus its fairly well future-proofed.
