Call of Duty: World at War is a first-person shooter video game, developed by Treyarch and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360.[1] It is the fifth installment in the Call of Duty series.[3] The game is set in the Pacific Theater and Eastern Front of World War II.[3][4] The game was released in North America on November 11, 2008,[5] in Australia on November 12, 2008,[7] and in Europe on November 14, 2008.[6]

The story focuses on the final battles of World War II in the Pacific and Eastern Europe involving the United States, the Empire of Japan, the Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany.[3] It is told from the perspectives of a Marine Raider and a Red Army soldier and is based on several historical battles, including the raid on Makin Island, the Battle of Stalingrad, the Battle of Peleliu, the Battle of Seelow Heights, the Battle of Okinawa, and the Battle of Berlin.[1][12] The multiplayer portion of the game contains various game modes and a leveling system that allows the player to unlock additional weapons and rewards as they progress, which was originally implemented in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A new feature to the Call of Duty series is the cooperative mode, which can support up to four players online and two offline.

it’s a great time to be a call of duty world at war player. A couple weeks ago we were given the sweet gift of double experience points for all multiplayer modes and the nazi zombies mini game was unlocked for everybody. This weekend we are getting a second helping of double xp plus two new playlists that will keep us in front of the television for hours on end.

Starting today until february 1, anyone playing waw will see team tactical and mercenary team death match modes added to the playlist. Team tactical will take two teams of four players and randomly select team based matches for them to compete in. Mercenary team deathmatch works the same way only no parties will be allowed. It’s the ultimate way to break up friendships.

team tactical with 4 players!! Double xp again! Mercenary tdm!

New Downloadable Content has been announced today for Call of Duty: World at War, which will be released in March.

“New conflicts are on the horizon for Call of Duty: World at War! We’re pleased to introduce the contents of our first Downloadable Content (DLC) Map Pack for World at War, which includes three new Multiplayer levels, as well as an additional level for the ever-popular bonus Co-Op mode, Nazi Zombies!”

Details on the map pack:

Nightfire
In “Nightfire,” players take to the streets of a war-ravaged Berlin with only the flames of the burning city to expose the enemy.

Station
“Station” offers a bombed out underground train station littered with hidden passageways and destroyed subway cars.

Knee Deep
“Knee Deep” takes place on the island of Peleliu in a once tranquil village turned chaotic Japanese command center.

Verrückt (Zombie Asylum)
The fan favorite 4-player co-op Nazi Zombies Bonus Mode returns with “Verrückt,” a terrifying Zombie asylum featuring more weapons, perks via the addition of Perks-a-Cola machines, electroshock defenses and the endless zombie horde.

“The team has been very quiet regarding details of our DLC until now, and we’re so excited to let this content loose. DLC Map Pack #1 is due out in March of ‘09 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC platforms. More details are soon to come, so be sure to check out CallOfDuty.com for all the latest news and updates regarding CoD:WaW!”

Yeah, new maps will be cool. they needed more maps to begin with. Wish they had some maps that were a little more similar in layout, as cod4. I'll definitely get the map pack.

Yeah the amount of grenades in this game is ridiculous. Haven't tried Team Tactical yet. Is it just 4 vs 4?

COD W@W Wins Ent Merch. Game Of The Year Award

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6636928.html?desc=topstory

FEB. 11 | The Entertainment Merchants Assn. awarded Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War the 2009 Video Game Home Entertainment Awards’ Game of the Year for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii Fit was named the Most Innovative Game of the Year at the GameSupply: The Supply Chain Academy for Interactive Entertainment, held in Encino, Calif. on Feb. 11. (Click here for a full list of winners.)

Both games won the most awards, with three wins each.

Nintendo garnered the most awards of any studio, with wins in five categories, including two for Mario Kart Wii, which won Family/Children’s Game of the Year and Racing Game of the Year.

In the new non-title specific category of Best Third-Party Publisher, EMA awarded Electronic Arts, which also won for Left 4 Dead (Non-Sequel Game of the Year) and Madden NFL 09 (Sports Game of the Year).

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV, which set one-day and first-week all-time records for videogames last year, received two awards, including Video Game of the Year.

“Today’s interactive entertainment has revolutionized consumers’ perception of entertainment and how they enjoy it,” EMA president and CEO Bo Andersen said. “EMA is pleased to recognize the winners of our 2009 Video Game Home Entertainment Awards for their extraordinary contributions to the industry and the amazing ways they changed the relationship between entertainment and the consumer.”

To be eligible, a videogame had to have been released during 2008. EMA’s Video Game Home Entertainment Awards Nominating Committee, comprised of videogame retailers and distributors, determines the awards categories and nominees.

Didnt know if this should be in the W@W thread since its not about like gameplay discussion ... perhaps in a week or so it could be merged if you like Cali ? Your call.

"Along with the new Call of Duty: World at War map pack GPU mentioned in a story a while back, was also mentioned that the folks at Treyarch were re-making the map "Makin" to change the setting from night to day. The map is finally Live and available to download free on Xbox 360. GPU assumes it will hit for PS3 users when the PS Store updates later today as well

Over the weekend we noticed a new glitch was discovered with the Bipod MG’s while prone on the ground. This glitch allowed players to “duplicate” their bipod MG, and ultimately lead to exiting the map, or even ending a game for other players.

Today we have released a hotfix for this problem, and included in it some other changes by popular demand.

Bipods – beginning today, bipods will no longer be deployable while prone. After careful consideration, we’ve decided that the best course of action at this time is to disable this functionality. The act of deploying your bipod when prone, while having a cool effect, doesn’t actually give the player a great benefit. Aiming down the sights while prone provides the same gameplay functionality without the limited view angles.

Playlist – the Hardcore War playlist has returned to 9v9 status; additionally, all vehicles have been removed from Hardcore playlists.

Map Rotations – Roundhouse and Upheaval have been added to the Free-for-All and Hardcore FFA playlist map rotations.

We’re aware of the “New” icons in the menus which do not go away, and have already addressed that in the next update. We’re also happy to say that we have a solution for those obnoxious hail-mary rifle grenade shots at the beginning of Search & Destroy rounds. Additionally, we’ve addressed one of the most commonly reported issues with the spawn system – we’ve been testing this a lot locally, and it works great.

Those, among others, will be available with the next TU we release (which will coincide with our Map Pack 1). Speaking of which, we will have some new DLC information hitting the web very soon – stay tuned!

Really good to hear about the rifle grenade crap and no vehicles on hardcore mode.

The Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 expands the addictive COD multiplayer experience with four new maps. Players fight through the burning streets of Berlin in “Nightfire” and take up battle positions in fortified Japanese bunkers in "Knee Deep." “Station” offers a bombed out underground train station, and the Nazi Zombies return in “Verrückt” (Zombie Asylum) featuring more weapons, new Perks-a-Cola machines and electroshock defenses.

How To Buy?
Download March 19, 2009 on X360 and PS3 - More information coming soon. Stay tuned for PC details as well.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know we recently pushed out a hotfix to address a few issues in MP and Nazi Zombies.

* MP Castle is secure – you can no longer get under the map
* Proactively addressed a few potential exploitable MP locations in other maps
* Addressed all known Nazi Zombie exploits to-date
