The reins of Konami's Castlevania franchise may be handed to Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions, as the developer is listed as partly responsible for a new game in the series Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Lords of Shadow was actually announced at last year's Games Convention, a title to be developed by Madrid-based Mercury Steam and originally pitched as the foundation of a new "action-adventure IP." Looks like that might have changed, as the game may have been retrofitted to be a new Castlevania game for the and PlayStation 3.

Not that difficult of a retrofit maybe, as the game's first trailer showed a cast that looked very much at home in the Castlevania universe, with a protagonist named Gabriel wielding the hilt of a weapon—known as the Combat Cross—that's part whip, part stabbing weapon.

The Castlevania: Lords of Shadow connection comes as part of a triumvirate of Gamespress leaks and may be tied to Kojima Productions "Mask" project. Will Mr. Kojima have another sneaky announcement planned for Sony's E3 press conference tomorrow? Tune in and find out!

In case you’re out of the loop, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow casts gamers in the shoes of broody hero Gabriel, a fellow member of the ‘Brotherhood of Light’ responsible for protecting innocent folk from things that go bump in the night. Boasting a stellar voice cast from the likes of Patrick Stewart and Robert Carlyle, Lords of Shadow is being developed by MercurySteam under the watchful eyes of Metal Gear father, Hideo Kojima, and is currently pencilled in for release next year.

New Details On Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

The new Castlevania project which is being developed by Kojima Productions has released a couple of new details in the last week. David Cox, producer on the game, has tweeted a few juicy details.

Firstly, he mentions that the "PS3 is the lead platform but the game is identical on both formats." This is good news for PS3 owners as it means that we are likely to get an equal or slightly better version of the game. So far, every game that has had the PS3 as a lead platform has looked almost identical on both consoles, the same cannot be said when the 360 has been the lead platform.

He also replied to the following question, "Could we rotate the camera to see the landscape for example, or is the camera always fixed with no control over it?"

David Cox replied, "Camera is fixed. You cannot control it." This means that we are likely to see a very cinematic game, similar to God of War, as it suggests that the game will be able to go into cutscenes seamlessly.

Cox: Castlevania devs "decided against" PS Move functionality

David Cox, producer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, has revealed that the development team flirted with the idea including PlayStation Move functionality in the game, but ultimately "decided against it."

Writing in response to a user question on Twitter, Cox, replied: “No we aren’t using the playstation move in this game. We did look at it but decided against it.”

Cox also recently revealed that PlayStation 3 is being utilized as the lead platform for the game. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is due out later this year.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is slated to release this fall and now, it appears we're one step closer to cementing that date.

David Cox just told everyone at his Twitter page that voice recordings for the game are "now complete." Now, in case you weren't already aware, Konami and MercurySteam are addressing the fact that past entries in the series haven't exactly provided us with top-notch voice acting. The voice cast for Lords of Shadow is indeed impressive; the most important roles will be filled by Robert Carlyle (Gabriel), Natascha McElhone (Marie), Jason Isaacs (not sure yet, but he's there), and oh yes, let's not forget Sir Patrick Stewart as both Zobek the Mentor and the Narrator. Combined with a new score by composer Óscar Araujo, this is one production that should shine when it comes to presentation and sound. We really want to see more gameplay - fall isn't that far off, you know - but we're certainly hoping to see some footage at E3 next month. In the meantime, we'll just be happy that voice acting has really spiked in quality this generation; it has become a supremely important facet of the interactive experience.

Could we be looking at the first AAA 3D Castlevania? Heck, why not? We've waited long enough by now, haven't we?

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow launch dates, DLC confirmed

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is slated for release in North America on Oct. 5, Konami announced during GamesCom. Gamers in Europe will get the game on Oct. 7, while the UK gets its copies on Oct. 8.

In what appears to be a growing trend among developers, Lords of Shadow will get two DLC packs, news announced prior to the game’s actual launch. So, does this mean that the game is incomplete? Not according to producer David Cox, who told 1UP that the game is complete and certainly has an ending.

The game is getting a collector’s edition, with the European version landing a soundtrack and mask, while the North American version will swap the mask with an art book.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow TGS trailer added to OP

The official Castlevania: Lords of Shadow trailer from TGS has been added to the OP. The dialogue isn't in English, but there is some gameplay footage and some demonic looking creatures. The ending is pretty funny, and the language barrier doesn’t keep us from laughing.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for PS3: Getting to Know Gabriel

When designing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, I often looked back at the original Castlevania for inspiration. I would remember the feelings I had as I traversed the dark, gloomy landscape and recall the wonderful music that would create an atmosphere quite unlike any other game of the time.

For me, Castlevania was always about lone warrior battling supernatural creatures with a whip. This was the core idea that when you strip away all the layers, is what remains true for the series even now. Of course, back then, games were far simpler and story lines, characters, and the rest were often secondary to the all-important gameplay.

Over the years, games have become more sophisticated and players have wanted deeper experiences and more far-reaching gameplay mechanics. Expectations for memorable characters and realistic environments often mean it’s much more difficult to find the core of a game and truly understand where something is coming from.

We decided early on that we would boil down that core idea and add layers on top but this time, we would add new layers along with some of the old. We knew we wanted Castlevania: Lords of Shadow to be about the Belmonts. We knew the main hero had to have a whip and not just any whip but a chain whip, just like the Belmonts of old. We knew series staples like daggers and holy water had to be in, too.

We knew that we had to have brooding and dark environments. Underground caves, dank swamps, sewers, catacombs and not just be set in a castle. Just like the old games! We knew we would need a forbidding castle with clock towers, dining halls, libraries and the like to explore but we also wanted to give players cunning puzzles and items to find to make exploring much more interesting.

We wanted old characters to be in our universe, but somehow different. Somehow not what you would expect, but enough for you to see and feel the character anew. So when people say to me, this game doesn’t look like Castlevania… I simply reply, you need to look harder and deeper, because inside this game is the Castlevania you know and love. And yet it is new, reborn. You just have to look with better eyes!

Gabriel Belmont is a lone warrior battling supernatural creatures with a whip. He is trying to bring back his dead wife to the world of the living. We have candles for you to whip, we have vampires, bats, zombies, werewolves, wargs. In fact, over 45 different enemies populate the game.

We have secondary weapons such as daggers and holy water. We have characters who some of you will recognize. We have a wonderful score that includes memorable Castlevania themes here and there that will give fans chills. But most of all, we have an open invitation to those of you who have never sampled the delights of Castlevania before.

The door is open and we want to welcome you in. Its going to be 20 hours of challenges, but you will be rewarded handsomely with a story that will deliver an epic re-imagining of the series for everyone to enjoy, not just fans.

Won’t you come in? The fire is raging and the master and his servants are home, waiting to give you a welcome you won’t soon forget!

Until next time…

Castlevania Lords Of Shadow review scores smash 90% barrier

We warned you it was looking a bit special. Konami's Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow has today fulfilled its promise of becoming 'the sleeper hit of 2010' - by racking up two 90%-plus reviews.

The game has been given GamesMaster's Gold Award, along with Xbox World 360's Star Player accolade. Both are only bestowed on games that crack the elusive 90% barrier.

'Water Castlevania's roots and a rollicking adventure sprouts forth," writes Xbox World 360. 'Brilliant, bloody fun... Lords Of Shadow feels like 16-bit design filtered through 20 years of innovation. there is passion here for the old ways - all buffed to a 2010 gleam.'

GamesMaster adds: 'A strong contender for action game of the year. The triumphant reimagining the series has always deserved.'

The Awards were revealed as part of a promotional insert in today's weekly industry bible, MCV.

LOS, which features 50 levels and a campaign that lasts 20-plus hours, is set in Southern Europe during the Middle Ages.

You play Gabriel Belmont, voiced by Robert Carlyle, who is looking to bring his wife back from the dead - by defeating the titular Lords and piecing together the magical God Mask.

The game wears the obvious influence by God Of War, Devil May Cry and Shadow Of The Colossus. It's been developed by Mercury Steam and overseen by Hideo Kojima.

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow is due for release on October 8 on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Konami working on PS3 Castlevania patch

Konami’s revealed that it is in the process of working on a patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow in order to fix the widely-reported save bug that's been plaguing the game since launch.

The bug in question is particularly troublesome, in that it completely deletes saved game data.

Writing on Twitter, Konami confirmed that a "patch for the PS3 save issue affecting Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is incoming."

I downloaded the demo ... this is such a huge title in regards to nostalgia ... I think this would have had better sales in the summer or so ... the line up is thick and deep for the rest of the year.

Demo was actually very fun, I dont have time for this game but maybe when it finally gets in $10 range I'll snag it.

Coo' that'll work. Though it may be a while before I'm ready for it as I just bought like 6 games EEK!
