Easily this is his #1 best performance for me. Then a close 2nd of his acting skills is definitely his spy interpretation of Austin Powers in Austin Powers 3!No, best performance is this -

There are two scenes there that make me cry, this one, and with Julianne Moore at the pharmacy...
And I know people suck, make fun of them both - one laughed out loud in a theater I was in during the first above (which pissed me off enough to remember for 25 years), and TV series Barry used the other scene for comedic 'practice'.
I like a lot of his other stuff, but Born on the 4th of July is possibly the one of the only ones where Tom Cruise disappeared and all that was left was the character he was playing. that said i haven’t seen this one, so maybe he does that here too.
