Tabletop Game Based on Episode of Adult Swim’s Hit Series Features Different ’Verses and Technologies That Power Contraptions

Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Cartoon Network Enterprises today announced the May 30 release of Rick and Morty: The Ricks Must Be Crazy Multiverse Game. In this engine-building tabletop game, 2-4 players take on the roles of Rick, Morty, Zeep, and Kyle as they introduce Power Supplies to different worlds, and then try to use the resulting Power to activate Contraptions before their opponents. Based on the Rick and Morty episode "The Ricks Must Be Crazy," gameplay takes place in four “’Verses” with unique attributes: the Rickverse, Microverse, Miniverse, and Teenyverse.

“This is an engine-building game in a way,” said Matt Hyra, the game’s Lead Designer. “Except that Power Supplies don’t have ownership, so if you can predict where a Power surplus will appear, you can take advantage of it … if your opponents don’t get to it first!”

During the Action Phase, players spend Actions to move to different ’Verses where they can build Power Supplies and Contraptions. Then, during the Power-Up Phase, Power generates from the bottom ’Verse up, and players utilize it to play One-Shot cards, use Character Abilities, and power-up their Contraptions. The winner is the player who scores the needed Victory Points by building Power Supplies and activating Contraptions.

Rick and Morty: The Ricks Must Be Crazy Multiverse Game will be available at retailers nationwide starting May 30 and at Origins Game Fair (June 13-17 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center) for a suggested retail price of $20.

Cryptozoic and Rooster Teeth Announce Partnership to Release Million Dollars, But... The Game

Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Rooster Teeth, pioneering media and entertainment company responsible for some of the biggest online series in history, today announced a partnership to release Million Dollars, But... The Game in July. Based on Rooster Teeth’s wildly popular series Million Dollars, But…, the addictive, easy-to-learn game has players put their morals and imagination to the test, posing the question, “What would you do for a million dollars?” After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2016 that earned over $1 million, the game has been sold online and received a limited retail release. The partnership between Cryptozoic and Rooster Teeth will result in a much wider release for Million Dollars, But… The Game, making it available at hobby stores and other retailers nationwide.

“At Cryptozoic, we’re huge fans of Rooster Teeth’s content and have loved playing Million Dollars, But... The Game at our game nights for a while,” said Jamie Kiskis, VP of Marketing & Product Development at Cryptozoic Entertainment. “So, when we saw an opportunity to partner with them to get the game into hobby stores, it was a no-brainer. It has already been a ton of fun to work with their team. We think it’s a partnership that will benefit both companies and lead to more collaborations in the near future.”

Burnie Burns, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer at Rooster Teeth, commented on the partnership:

"I'm thrilled folks will be able to buy Million Dollars, But... wherever they shop for games thanks to this partnership with Cryptozoic. Imagining friends and families gathering over a round of Million Dollars, But... makes me happy but I want to be perfectly clear that I accept no responsibility for what it does to their personal relationships. By reading this quote, you agree to this.”

In Million Dollars, But... The Game, 2-6 players (or more) each take four black Trigger Cards and four gold Rule Cards at the start of every round. After one player is chosen as the judge, the other players each create a scenario—using one Trigger and one Rule card—that proposes a situation in which someone gets a million dollars, but must do something distasteful in return. The judge reads these scenarios aloud and, then, the other players glorify or downplay the various scenarios. The winner of the round is the player who creates the scenario that the judge decides he or she would not do. The overall winner is the first player to win five rounds.

Million Dollars, But... The Game will be available at retailers nationwide in July for a suggested retail price of $25.

Wallet.jpg

Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and physical and digital collectibles, today announced the July 11 release of Wallet. In this party game, 2-7 players compete to find money and an ID that will convince the cops of their innocence. The game is played using an actual wallet with multiple pockets and zippered areas that allow players both to take game cards and put them back, as they try to improve their own chances at victory and lead their opponents into traps. Each fast-paced round lasts only 10 minutes, and an entire match is over in just 30 minutes.

Wallet is a party game in the truest sense: easy-to-learn, fast, filled with surprises, and loads of fun!” commented Adam Sblendorio, Vice President of Creative at Cryptozoic. “We think players will have a great time reaching into the wallet to find currencies from around the world and the IDs of colorful characters. And when they’re done playing, the whole game can be stored right in the wallet!”

The objective in Wallet to collect as many Victory Points as possible by being the richest innocent player at the end of each round. A player is normally declared innocent if he or she has exactly one ID, no more than 500 currency units (CU), and no more than two types of currencies at the end of the round. However, some cards and IDs alter these conditions by adding various restrictions and bonuses.

During a turn, a player can perform one of the following actions: take a card from the wallet, put a card from his or her hand in the wallet, buy an ID, or flip an Hourglass card. A round is over when all six Hourglass cards are flipped. At the end of the third round, the player with the most Victory Points is declared the winner.

Wallet will be be available at retailers nationwide July 11 for a suggested retail price of $30.

Cryptozoic also plans to make a limited quantity of the game available for purchase on its eStore during the summer.

Fans can come to Cryptozoic’s Booth #115 at San Diego Comic-Con for the first opportunity to buy the 1-2 player tabletop game based on the hugely popular “Pickle Rick” episode of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty. “Some people may buy this just for the giant pickle,” explained Matt Hyra, the game’s lead designer. “But when they open it up, they’ll find a quick and intense game that will bring their favorite Rick and Morty episode to life!”

In the game, one player plays as Pickle Rick as he tries to escape a heavily armed compound, while the other player takes on the roles of both the Russians and Jaguar as they try to stop him. Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of tabletop games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Rotten Tomatoes, entertainment fans’ go-to resource for movie, TV, and streaming recommendations, today announced the upcoming release of Rotten Tomatoes: The Card Game.

Building on Rotten Tomatoes, the world’s most trusted resource for entertainment discovery and recommendations, this fast-paced party game asks up to 20 players to rank movies based on what they think their Tomatometer scores are. Mixing player knowledge and easy-to-learn gameplay, with some of the most famous films of all time featured on game cards, makes this the perfect game for any film buff looking to test their cinematic knowledge. Adding to the fun are Wild Cards, some that include inviting all players to shout out answers at the same time, making for a lively and interactive gameplay experience.

“At Rotten Tomatoes, we are obsessed with pop culture and finding fun and interactive ways to connect with movie fans, while enabling them to fully immerse themselves in the world of entertainment,” said Aaron Kohn, Rotten Tomatoes VP, Business Operations & Growth Strategy. “Rotten Tomatoes: The Card Game offers players a one-of-a-kind experience, infusing the world-famous Tomatometer scores with lively gameplay, while testing players’ movie knowledge.”

“We are beyond thrilled to partner with Rotten Tomatoes on this amazingly fun game that brings the brand to the world of tabletop gaming,” said Cory Jones, co-founder of Cryptozoic Entertainment. “Our teams have worked together every step of the way to choose the ideal movies for the 350 cards, the right look for the cards and box, and the most intuitive gameplay possible. We know movie fans everywhere will love it and hopefully we can do lots of expansions in the future!”

In the initial setup of Rotten Tomatoes: The Card Game, each player is dealt three Movie Cards, which are arranged in order by their Tomatometer scores and form each player’s Movie Collection. Then during each player’s turn, the player to their right draws a Movie Card and reads the movie’s title and other details except its Tomatometer score. The active player guesses where the movie’s Tomatometer score fits among their current cards. If they are correct, the card is added to their Movie Collection.

Wild Cards interrupt a player’s turn and include other players as they must guess either a movie’s release year, audience score, cast members, title, or Tomatometer score. The winner gains the Movie Card, and the Wild Card is discarded.

Rotten Tomatoes: The Card Game is slated to be available at retailers in early 2023 for a suggested retail price of $24.99. It can be preordered now from the Cryptozoic Shop.

Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of tabletop games, trading cards, and collectibles, today announced the release of three Steven Rhodes Games Vol. 2 titles: Cryptozoology for Beginners, Living Well Is the Best Revenge, and Let’s Call the Exorcist.

Successfully funded on Kickstarter last year, the games are based on the work of Steven Rhodes, an artist known for his offbeat reimagining of children’s activity books from the 1970s and 1980s. They hail from Dynomite Games, an old-school sub-brand of Cryptozoic that creates games featuring easy-to-learn gameplay with very little setup time, while offering hidden depth to satisfy hardcore gamers.

"It’s been a very cool experience to see how my designs have been adapted into a larger world of their own,” said Steven Rhodes. “Cryptozoic has done a phenomenal job of capturing the retro vibe and warped humor of my artwork to produce such a fun and collectible set of high quality games."

“After the response to our first Steven Rhodes Games, we were thrilled to work with Steven again on three new games inspired by his hilarious art,” said Cory Jones, co-founder of Cryptozoic. “All three Vol. 2 titles embody our Dynomite Games brand, as we bring together rules that can be learned in five minutes and real elements of strategy. Whether you’re a casual or hobby gamer, there’s a ton of fun and surprises in each bite-sized game.”

Cryptozoology for Beginners is a creature-drafting set collection game for 2-4 players. Players are dealt Assignments and hands of cards, choosing to keep one before passing the rest to the next opponent. After drafting is complete, players play cards and activate abilities to gain points and complete their Assignments.

Living Well Is the Best Revenge is a fast-paced dice game in which 2-4 players try to bury their opponents. After unlocking cards, players can trigger special abilities that result in stealing points, reroll tokens, extra dice, and more.

Finally, Let’s Call the Exorcist is a social deduction game for 4-8 players. Players have hidden roles that determine whether they’re on the Innocent or the Possessed team. They may describe any cards in front of themselves, and then players choose from hidden cards until their team's Artifacts are revealed.

All three Steven Rhodes Games Vol. 2 titles are available now on the Cryptozoic Shop and retailers everywhere for a suggested retail price of $19.99 per game or $59.97 for all three. Cryptozoic has a limited quantity of the Kickstarter edition available, which features all three games in a slipcase plus exclusive cards and other components, for $69.99.
