Crysis, the gorgeous sci-fi shooter from German developer Crytek Frankfurt, is a PC game. So is its sequel, Crysis 2 — that, and an Xbox 360 and a PS3 game.

The game is the second entry in the planned Crysis triology and will be published by EA. "The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. "This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3."

No word on a release date.

A new Crysis 2 video has confirmed a PlayStation 3 multiplayer demo will launch.

The gameplay video, below, shows a snippet from the single-player level "Semper Fi or Die".

At the end of the video we're told: "PS3 multiplayer demo coming soon."

Executive producer Nathan Camarillo wasn't joking last week when he said PlayStation 3 gamers "can probably hope for" a demo, then.

No date is revealed, but given the game is due out in just over a month, we expect the demo to launch soon.

A multiplayer demo is set to hit PC on 1st March. It includes two maps and two modes, each setting up six versus six matches.

video here: i can't hard link it

Yeah I did earlier ... its pretty cool, you can totally tweak your controls sensitivity to your liking if you dont like default.

Dont know if I'd buy it yet .... tho.

Crytek Talks Crysis 2 PS3; Multiplayer Demo Now Available

Console gamers didn’t get the chance to experience the first Crysis, a shooter known for making PC gamers feel self-conscious about the power of their graphics cards. PlayStation 3 owners won’t be left out of the follow-up, as Crysis 2 arrives on PS3 next week.

Recently I spoke with Executive Producer Nathan Camarillo about those trademark Crytek visuals, and about the new multiplayer demo, which just hit PSN last night.

PlayStation Blog: We know Crytek can produce on the PC. How do you utilize the PS3 to live up to the high PC standard?

Nathan Camarillo: It’s the core of CryEngine 3 that’s able to scale appropriately and we can adjust per platform exactly what we wanna get out of it. We want the exact same gameplay experience, the same fun, the same intensity, all the same visual information that you need to understand and play the game appropriately. It’s just a lot of under the hood magic.

PSB: One recent IGN article said Crysis 2 didn’t look very good on PS3. CVG/PSM disagreed. What’s your response?

NC: I’ve gone on the record saying that if you stick PS3 and 360 side by side I would challenge anyone to find any meaningful difference. I don’t see it at all.

PSB: Talk about 3D implementation Crysis 2 on the PS3.

NC: In Cry Engine 3 we have a really tricky implementation of 3D – we’re able to generate the 2nd image with little to no impact. We don’t lose visual quality, we don’t lose resolution. You get the same experience as you get in the 2D game, except it’s in 3D, which is better. It’s more immersive, it feels better.

The 2nd part of our implementation is: we don’t throw things out of the screen at you. We start at the TV screen and then push in. This avoids eyestrain and eye fatigue, because we want you to play this for hours and hours. If you’re playing single player it’s easily 10-12 hours for a good gamer to get through the game.

PSB: What should PS3 gamers be looking out for in the demo?

NC: In most games you’re mentally programmed to stick on the ground. If you wanna go one level higher, go find a ladder, go find some stairs. It takes until people see someone jump in front of them that they realize they can jump there. You gotta break the habit of being ground-constrained like in other games.

If it’s one story high, you can jump there. If it’s a story and half, you can jump and pull yourself up. So it really changes the speed and pace of multiplayer. I can’t wait for PlayStation 3 owners to get their taste of crazy, insane nanosuit multiplayer action.

That wait is now over – the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo is now available on the PlayStation Store, featuring two game modes on two maps. Try it out and share your thoughts in the comments.

The graphics arent as good as all the hype I used to hear about on PC... I expected godly graphics. And the kill streaks are so reminiscent of COD

Yeah they had to dumb it down, if it didn't run on the highest settings in the best PCs in the world the PS3 never stood a chance. I set the download for the PS3, but looking at the PC demo for this game I am very very disappointed.

Crysis 2 Demo Ending on PS3 Soon

EA and Crytek will be shutting down the PS3 version of the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo soon, due to issues surrounding server connection delays that have been marring the experience for some players.

"Thank you for your interest in the PlayStation 3 version of the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo," reads a statement on EA.com's Crysis 2 Blog. "Though many gamers have had a great experience playing the demo, we are aware that others have been experiencing server connection delays. We’ve identified the root cause and have decided to close the PS3 demo in the next 24 hours to ensure all issues are resolved when the game launches next week. Our priority is to ensure that the final product is flawless at launch."

Well, if closing the demo down means that Crysis 2 on PS3 is flawless, then it surely can't be a bad thing. You'll be able to get your hands on the full version of Crysis 2 on March 22nd in North America and March 25th in Europe.

Electronic Arts has followed its claim that Steam "expelled" the EA-published Crysis 2 with an explanation that some EA games will not be available over Steam, the leading PC download service, because of a dispute over how they are patched and updated. This comes, of course, a month after EA opened Origin, its own digital download service.

"We always want to be sure we provide this content and service at the highest possible level of quality. To ensure this, any retailer can sell our games, but we take direct responsibility for providing patches, updates, additional content and other services to our players," wrote David DeMartini, Electronic Arts' senior vice president of global E-commerce. "Unfortunately, if we're not allowed to manage this experience directly and establish a relationship with you, it disrupts our ability to provide the support you expect and deserve."

DeMartini said that this arrangement was suitable in EA's partnerships with GameStop, Amazon "and other online retailers," but implied that it was unworkable "under extremely special circumstances," implying such circumstances were conditions set by Steam.

DeMartini added that, except under those circumstances "We offer our games to every major download service, including Amazon, Gamestop, and Steam."

In mid-June, Crysis 2 went missing from Steam, though it was available on other download services, including Origin. EA insisted that Steam's "business terms" forced Crysis 2's removal, adding that "Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis II from Steam." While unspecified at the time, taken with DeMartini's comments it sounds like a conflict over post-release support and its approval.

I am glad Steam yanked the game from their online stores. EA is just acting like the victim, it is not like they didn't know of valve's strict rules for Steam. They alone went and tried to do something they weren't supposed to and got caught.
