Crysis, the gorgeous sci-fi shooter from German developer Crytek Frankfurt, is a PC game. So is its sequel, Crysis 2 — that, and an Xbox 360 and a PS3 game.

The game is the second entry in the planned Crysis triology and will be published by EA. "The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. "This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3."

No word on a release date.

always love big game announcements! it may be dumbed down, but how many people could play the first game at max settings anyways? i had to play at medium, and it still looked great. i doubt this game would look any worse then that game at medium.

it was a fun game as well, so hopefully they continue with the elements that made that game fun in this one.

Well like the boys said, the game might be dumbed down for consoles, but I'm pretty sure that they are going to develop on the PC first. I mean, just push the PC version as far as possible and let them do the same for the console versions. They could have it on medium settings at best.

Crysis 2 to be set in New York City

Crysis 2 will take place in New York City, according to a Twitter image of the upcoming PlayStation: The Official Magazine’s cover. It appears aliens have invaded New York City, and you will “blast their faces off” with the “Nanosuit 2.0.”

The game is expected to be released before the end of the year on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

if this is true then that would wrap up 2010 as biggest year for games EVER

Cool the first one was very good, the multi player was fun but not many people i gamed with got into the swing of team work.

Graphics very very nice.

I could run at high just had to drop the Res a touch.

There is a cool Beta mod on the PC for the first one that turns it into a sort of Mech Warrior. Shame they cant do that sort of stuff on the PS3

The recently revealed New York City setting for Crysis 2 was met with just a touch of disappointment. "What of the open environments?!" commenters cried. Well, if Crysis 2 uses this tech, I don't think openness will be an issue.

Reader Jay tipped us off to this "Structure Procedural System" tech demo, which can generate building interiors dynamically, without overtaxing the memory of, say, the non-upgradeable consoles that Crysis 2 is coming to. And since this system was developed by Crytek programmer Marco Corbetta and 3D modeler Miragoli Gianluca—who doesn't work at Crytek to the best of our knowledge—it's not out of the question.

If Crytek can apply some of those fancy graphics to a system like this, we might not be too unhappy to shoot up Crysis 2's concrete jungle.
