Hi All,
As some of you may know I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 6/19. You can read my earlier update here, where I first shared this very personal news and journey. At 36 I was shocked and mortified, especially having no family history, glaring risk factors, or genetic mutation (I underwent genetic testing)-but as is usually the case, these things can just invade you, but inner strength quickly rises to the surface and focus shifted to battle plans and treatment. This is not a pity party, but a heart to heart that will allow you and everyone that has asked how they can help, to join 'Xena's Army' and help me fight and win this battle, with the HDN community behind me-XENA style!
As a long-time Staff member (Admin) of this community, and fellow collector, I am posting a personal request and asking you to help me make a difference for a fundraising effort.
A very good friend has created a team for me and is serving as team captain, in which several close, local friends are walking for me and this cause-The 'Race for the Cure' through the Susan G Komen Foundation (This organization was founded by someone who lost someone.). While I am not sure if I can walk September 30,2012, due to the inevitable side effects of my treatments, I am doing all I can to aid my team's fundraising efforts.
Like many, I am currently undergoing a physically chemotherapy regimen, have had numerous surgeries, and still have to have more surgery+radiation. My hair is gone (usually very tough and sad for a woman, as it was for me, always having had a dark, thick mane of hair). Treatments and side effects are hard and annihilating, but I am fighting through them, with my sense of humor and taking good physical and mental care of myself, and still contributing here as much as I can, on 'good' days. Know that I am staying mentally tough, with the help of family and friends, but I am asking for your support.
Our community is generally tight-knit. New collectors are attracted to HDN because we take great care behind the scenes, as we're collectors ourselves, to create a fun, informative and accurate community to help spread the news about Steelbooks, movies, entertainment, tech and all related topics. Typically when anyone in our Hidefninja.com community is down for any reason, we bind together and help-whether it's with Group Buys, news, accuracy of info, and or, simply friendship.
Due to our combined loved of movies and collectibles, many of us have become acquaintances or friends on and offline, and I hope you will stand by me now, as I fight this battle, as 'Xena'-my assumed name for this long journey ahead.
This disease affects 1000's and 1000's of women every day, ravishes families, self esteem, and ruins lives. But women (and the % of men affected) also survive the rigors of treatment and the emotional toll through the support of their loved ones and friends.
Funds donated directly contributes to the foundation and to research, education, prevention, treatment option exploration, and hopefully, eventually a cure. You may already know someone battling now, or have lost someone to this disease.
I am asking the HDN community I love, and to which I have contributed to for several years, on a daily basis to please stand with me and help me raise funds to stand behind every woman diagnosed, still getting treated, and all those to come. You are free to add 'HDN' and your username behind your name, if you decide to contribute-or you can donate anonymously. No amount is too small-every $ matters.
I have shared a very personal story here, because it's not just important to me, but to the well being of 1000's of women around the world. I have never considered myself a victim, because I fight side by side with them. This is a joint battle cry to the HDN community-in true 'Xena' fashion!
You can make any donation at my personal donation page at http://www.komencsnj.org/goto/digitalbabe and click 'Support Sariena'. All funds are aggragated for the team. With the entire HDN community's help, I hope to far surpass the preset personal fundraising goal, as well as the team goal.
Thank you for all of your support!
