Do You Normally Stick To Certain Regions Or Countries When Buying Your Steelbooks?

Up until now I have stuck to US, Canada and UK for all my steelbooks. But in the last week I have broken down and bought 2 German steelbooks (Casino Royale because I want to get the 9 US steels have 2 already and then see about expanding to all Bond movies, and Psycho because I am huge Hitchcock fan I own 48 of his 52 movies and have seen 49 of his films plus I have always wanted a vertical steelbook and while the UK has a version of it this will be my first vertical).

I think I am becoming too addicted now I am buying steels from other than the 4 countries I said I would buy them from (Australia being the 4th just never bought one from there yet but trying to stick with the English speaking countries).

So do you buy from everywhere or just limit yourself to regions or languages? I won't buy a movie that doesn't have the English title on the cover that's for sure (stuff like Planet of the Apes that I do want to get will be a UK version).

I'm like the original poster. I stick to Canada, US and UK. I only buy steels with English text because I'm buying english speaking movies. I've recently bought a few from Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan as well but only ones with all english. Region also plays a huge factor in my purchases because I open all of my steels and watch all of them. Whats the point in owning movies you can never watch?

Non english titles used to bother me but not any more. If a steelbook is region "B" and I have the amaray I will just switch out the discs. I have already done it with Dances With Wolves, Taken, Rambo and The Expendables (France).

The point of not opening steels is the collector value, collecting steelbooks is like collecting anything take action figures, they don't get opened and that seems accepted! Some people like to watch em, some just like the collecting aspect of it! Although I do open some 95% are unopened, but that's the way I like it!

I use to limit myself to only region 'A' titles but since I bought my Oppo BDP-93 I'm not limited by any region now and I can buy whatever I want. As for limiting myself to a particular region or part of the world, not really. If they have something I like then I buy it. There is one exception though, I won't buy from Amazon Japan because there shipping prices are through the roof.

Now that I have a region free blu ray player I don't limit to regions. If I like the film and artwork I'll get it, I'll blind buy some too if I like the artwork and have heard good things about it like The Raid.

Doesn't matter about the region code, i have a region B and C player, but i still buy region A steelbooks and other collectors versions of films as i will buy the UK standard amaray version as well...

In terms of where abouts in the world i purchase my films, i will normally not be too bothered about where in the world i buy my steelbooks come from, but try to limit myself from Asia as shipping and customs cost too much. I looked on a duty calc and for me to purchase the Japanese Seven steelbook, it would cost neer enough £100 to get accross the UK boarder

You could still get the Japanese steels off eBay, I've seen seven for about £45 from a UK seller! So that's one way round it :0)

I was region free and NTSC/PAL before I started collecting blu steels. Made it easy to get whatever I wanted. US, CA, UK, DE, AU, CZ, KR, FR, CH, NE, HK, JP & GR. Mostly CA and DE until UK started cleaning up their act (ratings) and releasing more titles. I could never survive on the US steels alone--pitiful in comparison, even though Hollywood makes 99% of the content.

that's where i got my japanese inception, batman begins and dark knight steelbooks from. worked out well for me!
i don't restrict myself to particular countries when buying steelbooks, although english text is always preferable

I've managed to purchase steelbooks from all around the world. Even my 1st steelbook was a Korean ver. of Avatar.
If I had restricted myself to region specific or title language, I'd have missed out on some of the best looking steels in circulation.
As long as the price looks right and the artwork is great, I'll happily buy it :)

To answer the question to the topic the answer is no. I buy from all over the world. No single country can do the best steelbooks.

When I started I told myself I was going to stick to Canada only releases, but that soon changed when Thor and Captain America came out from the UK lol.

Still I buy mostly from Canada but have quite a few UK/German releases now as well. I think I only have 3 from France (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Conan 3D, and X-Men First Class) The art on those 3 were the best even though 2 of them have french titles.

I do prefer English Title, Non printed logos/back, and inside art/embossing.

Region coding does factor in, but its not a as big of a factor as the above 3 items.

I used to be afraid of getting Region B and C titles but not anymore, If I really want to see the film and can either buy a cheap amaray version to watch or use my computers BD drive as it is region free.

I would like to buy more Canadian releases, but they are so over priced. Excluding the various waves. Disney movies for $39-49.00, give me a break. IMO

If you can get a disney steel for 30-45 dollars your basically paying what I, a Canadian pay. The Disney Steels are only coming out on a limited basis, so get them while you can because pretty soon no more Disney steels because some of them will go back in the vault. The price is only going to soar so if you really wanted Alice in Wonderland with Johhny depp you should buy it!

BUY A REGION FREE PLAYER. THE ONE I HAVE PLAYS ANY COUNTRY FOR DVD AND BLU RAY! THE ARTWORK HAS TO BE GOOD AND THE PRICE REASONABLE. I'm not going to pay 700 dollars for Iron Man because I missed out; however, I will pay 40-50 dollars for steels like Inception and Thor!

Until they open the vault again and re-release'em. lol :hilarious:

I stuck with JUST US steels at first. Then I broke down and got 2 from Canada. Then I got a German one and one from italy and now I am after a few Uk. I would love to own more but funds are tight and when I get OT at work I splurge on myself a bit :scat:

Ok question since almost is talking about region free bluray players can you not unlock your player like you could a dvd player. My dvd player was not region free but you could google codes to unlock it and it is now region free can you not do that with a bluray player?

Broke down and bought another German steel for 21 (A because I don't own the movie and B because it was dirt cheap at $14 with shipping).

Yeah i do.

As a new fan, i'm only interested in the most financially efficient way of obtaining quality products, so no ridiculous import & customs charges for me!

Additionally, i detest non-english writing over a steel ...reduces the value of a SB in my eyes ...hell i probably wouldn't even take some of the german ones for free :)

I will say though that there are many US & CA steels i'd quite like to own, but hopefully my buddies @ play will release superior UK versions in the near future :D

I don't. As long as the region is offering a SB I can't get anywhere else, I'm in. For example, the HK Iron Man 2. Though now, it looks like UK, Germany are leading the pack in quality SB releases so that is where I am getting them mostly now.

Up until now most of my steels are from US, Canada, UK, and Germany. I have one steelbook from each Japan, Korea, China and France. Previously I would pick the best steel for the money but recently I decided I want to have as many countries in my collection as I can. So who knows where I will get the next Paramount worldwide release from ;)
