Printed blue Blu-Ray banners. Remember those? Most collectors loathed them, and they didn't last for long once the Blu-Ray format had become more mainstream.

Many early Blu-Ray SteelBooks had these ugly printed blue Blu-Ray banners, but these soon disappeared due to their unpopularity. The banner had several redesigns over the years before being discarded completely

The original blue banner was just a straight blue banner with a white Blu-Ray logo in the centre. The second design was similar, but the white Blu-Ray logo was placed inside an oval with a slight dark silhouette. The next change would darken the oval, and change the banner to a concave arch. The final evolution would lighten the blue colour of the banner, and also change the centre oval to a dual-layer convex protrusion - The centre of the design would now be white, with the Blu-Ray logo printed in blue

Future releases would see the banner removed completely, although some companies do still retain the design in the form of a J-card in one form or another

Below is a selection of UK SteelBook releases which feature the printed blue Blu-Ray banner:

i think some steelbooks need the blue banner on top printed, as it fills the steelbooks upper part which in some titles looks empty.
take for instance 10000 BC crackle laquer.
without it i recon it would look disgusting unlike now that i has it that gives a more striking out look to it.
IMO opinion they shouldnt release titles without the logo og blu ray, instead they should stop releasing J cards instead

a lot of the older FutureShop releases had the Blu-ray banner as well, but I don't feel like it really takes away from how great the steels look (nor their value :p)

I hate the blu banners. I own no steel (yet) with a blu banner and I have passed a few steels cause of em.

I have a couple with printed banners. Predators (uk) and Tropic Thunder (Swe), plus Minority Report in the post. I don't really mind them, as they look ok on those particular steels, but to be honest my favourite looking steels don't have one.

The blue banners are completely awesome. You could almost judge the value of your collection by how many blue banners are in your collection.
