Entertainment One (EOne) - SteelBook Poll - new products [UK]

Which of these Steelbooks would you like to see produced....

  • Total voters
    398
  • Poll closed .
Thank you for all your votes so far. Lost In Translation has taken the crown..... which we are exploring now with artwork etc (if anyone has ideas or artwork they would like to see let me know)

One thing that was a discussing point in the office was that, if Lost In Translation was popular, would people also want to see Enternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind? This could be a complimentary launch to Lost In Translation if the demand is there?

I have added this to the poll, be keen to hear your thoughts!

Kind regards,

Adrian

If we've just lost the possibility of a continuation of an established collection (yes, I'm talking about TWD) because of a poxy ScarJo film then I will be less than impressed.

Please tell me that seasons 4 and 5 (and beyond) are still on the cards?

hi @CasuallyDressed we are still looking in to these...I do not have a definitive answer at this stage. There are two potential problems at this stage, the sign off from AMC, and the production run of 4000 units. (I believe the last three sold around 2k)
Can the production be lowered to 2k units? If Zavvi can knock out "ultra limited" 2k runs then surely you guys can too?

@eonedirect first of all thank you for doing a poll here on HDN, and asking collectors directly what they actually want.
now that one of my favorite film of recent years "lost in translation" is leading the poll, i'm gonna suggest some artwork.

first of all, best artwork there is and ever will be for this movie, already available on the soundtrack vinyl:

i'm sure you can sell even a 4K printrun with scarjo's back on the front. ;D

the following two scream "inside artwork!":

no matter what your choice will be, please make sure it's not the same as already available amaray artwork, please make sure the steelbook itself gets a proper finishing (i don't mind if it's matte or gloss, it should look quality, not cheap).

and concerning "eternal sunshine": this just had a korea release (kimchidvd exclusive), so i don't think there will be the same demand as for "lost in translation" which hasn't had any "special" treatment at all, yet.

I would watch that poxy film a hundred times rather than waste my time with something like The Walking Dead, thank you very much.

And yet up until a couple of weeks ago I'm sure you weren't even aware that eOne were in charge of making a steelbook for it.

That's the annoying thing here. TWD fans have been on eOne's case for nearly a year about a season 4 steelbook. Suddenly the option for LiT comes up and we're cast by the wayside.

And if @severo 's post is anything to go by, I'm so glad to be missing out so y'all can have a bit of ass on a steelbook.

@CasuallyDressed To be honest, we haven't had much demand come through our retailers or public demanding the continuation on the Walking Dead Steelbooks. 1-3 were distributed via The Entertainment Store however, and not via eOne Direct, so hard for me to comment on dialogue between businesses. We are looking at it, but as I said approval proved hard on the first three. 2k runs are from China and a) very expensive to produce b) you have to commit to 4 titles and c) it takes longer to produce and deliver. This is a consideration we are assessing now. I am pushing these forward internally, but Lost In Translation is an easier conversation without approval conversations, and we have somewhat greater creative freedom.

There's always seasons 6 and 7...

Also, don't forget about Warm Bodies!

Then I'm afraid The Entertainment Store have failed in forwarding our demand on:

A thread that you've posted in, so you must see how much collectors want this.

Oh, and by comparison: https://www.hidefninja.com/community/threads/lost-in-translation.35328/
Thread is 2 years old and is still on its first page.

And yet despite that, there's still less demand for TWD than for a Lost In Translation steelbook, based on polls in this topic. (And there's only been 81 yes votes in the one you mentioned, which is even less than here.)
I'm not saying you shouldn't get them if the demand is there, but at the end of the day eOne are a business and as such have to make their decisions based on if they'll actually sell enough/make the profit needed to make it feasible or not.

Personally, I'd have more than likely purchased the TWD Steelbooks produced so far if they hadn't used Jock's artwork, because I really dislike it.

Likely because people either haven't seen it, or didn't think any company would actually be coming along to pick it up. It's not exactly the most popular section of the forums to begin with.

nice try of a comparison! lol

maybe the LIT thread is on its first page because it got buried within many new posts two years ago?

fact is, 173 vots for LIT here, which is almost 50% of all votes. i would also buy a "walking dead season 4" steelbook, if it was the only collector's editions choice but there will be so many coming anyway, so i'd prefer a "lost in translation" steelbook very much, as it's a great adorable movie and it hasn't had any special treatment yet.

Hi Adrian

Thanks for the poll .

Where the walking Dead is concrned people did not jump because a continuation of the series in steelbook form was not garenteed .

For me it turned into Coronation Street with Zombies series 2 and half of seies 3 .

Now it is back to being some threat and survival horror I'd along with others would jump and buy it if the following series could be done in steelbook form .

All the Best Scary Hair :) .

@CasuallyDressed Zavvi do not produce any Steelbook's, studio's do. Many of the studio's share or own rights across territories, enabling them to produce Steelbook runs for different countries and sharing the cost, so they might have 2000 in the UK, but sold across the EU. We do not hold the rights for most of our films in other countries, so becomes a different conversation. I did see the previous thread for Walking Dead on the 1st of May 2015, which is why I raised it on the poll.
I'm aware that Zavvi don't produce them, but I can go on Zavvi's website and find numerous exclusive 2k runs. Not UK exclusives, WORLD exclusives. As in not sold anywhere but Zavvi.

If eOne doesn't hold the rights in other countries then why does my German TWD season 4 steelbook have an eOne badge on the spine?

Finally, if it's so difficult for eOne to secure the permission and artwork from Jock for season 4 then why even put it in the poll? Has eOne ever intended to actually do it?

The tone of this conversation has shifted slightly, and I apologise for that, but the opportunity to question this decision has been a long time coming.

The problem is that even if the remaining available series of The Walking Dead are released, there is no guarantee that future series will be released in Steelbook form or even on Blu-ray. It could be the same situation again in a couple of years.

@CasuallyDressed Absolutely no need to apologise, you are passionate about your product, which from my perspective is good to see. As I said, we are looking in to it, all I can say at this stage sadly. When I have more info I will let you all know. I appreciate other studios do shorter runs, but there are numerous reasons why this is a case, but probably worth discussing off topic. Different territories also control their own product and exclusives for their local markets, and often we do not combine as it is tailored. Steelbooks will continue to get produced as long as the demand is there for them, which from WD1-3 it did not hit EU production quotas. We did however produce the Limited Edition Artbook which we thought collectors would appreciate, and with a lower unit run this seemed in our eyes a good consolation for a Steelbook. I have fed back your comments so let's just see what happens...
Anything special coming for TWD Season 5 like the artbook or something ?
