Wow, they're putting out two of the best anime series of all time, Lain and Ergo Proxy – all that's left is Texhnolyze.
But I already have both the large DVD boxsets with individual amarays for each volume, and Blu-ray upscales. I wouldn't mind paying about £10 for an empy steelbook IF it has individual trays for each disc, but £50 for something I already have and just one old picture on a steel — nah....

I must say, I've watched the other two anime series getting Steelbook releases, but I've never heard of this one. Like. At all. Weird.
By your reactions @Billy Talent and @Lenny Nero can I assume its worth downloading and watching Ergo Proxy?
Not for everyone, but I really liked it, I loved the dark, cyberpunk vibe.
It can be a bit confusing at first, but once things start falling into place, it’s absolutely worth it

Does it have a consistent series spanning narrative or a episodic story each episode?

Sounds up my street. I'll see if I can check it out this weekend. I love complicated stories.

Most episodes follow an overarching plot, but a few episodes stand alone and explore different ideas.
It's one of the most unique anime out there.

Yes, this is what got me into anime beyond the basic Ghost in the Machine, and why I turned to it in the first place, as cyberpunk is my most favorite genre and there just wasn't much of it in films and live action TV series (besides Total Recall 2070 and Charlie Jade) at the time.

20 years later there's still not much of it, and series like this seem to have disappeared entirely. Just thousands of episodes of crappy Dragon Ball and Naruto type of stuff, giving anime an overall impression of being dumb and childish, whenever you tell uninitiated people that you like and watch it...

Dragonball came out in the 80's and is still going today, let's not pretend it hasn't always been immensely popular. There's not really a lack of cyberpunk stuff either, it's just never going to be as popular as something like Naruto so don't expect a 20 season run.

Ironically what basically killed Manga in the UK was putting all their money into Ghost in the Shell instead of focusing on action and porn which would have kept them flush with money. As long as it doesn't choke it out, a healthy industry should cover a broad spectrum.

Haha, I can never forget the shock of buying the VHS of Akira from Our Price records one month, falling in love with Anime from that moment in 1993, then being totally psyched to go home and watch my next VHS pick up - Legend of The Overfiend...
Oops.
Piss poor marketing Manga Video. Erm, goopy monster dics and sloppy demon milk and I'm pretty sure none of that love making was in any way shape or form consensual.

Suffice it to say, my Mother wasn't too happy. Lolz. Yikes.
