The german release has English of German subs for all speaking parts, both English and Chinese. No option for just the Chinese, but that's better than Italy and France gave us.
They aren't forced, they can be turned off, but the default is on.

It depends of the player. On my Oppo UDP 203, I really can't turn subs off. Yours a Panasonic.

I'm still not sure that counts as forced though, if they can be turned off (on some players). Hey, atleast they're not hardcoded!
People need to accept that the googly eyes aren’t going away with any design for this film
I bet mantas has actual googly eyes stuck to the OC
EDIT: Nevermnind I figured out from the following posts!
It's not the googly eyes I have an issue with... it's the lack of anything else on there and the fact it doesn't go with the front at all.
i zoomed the credits on the back and found this... no wonder why you dont like it, but please check.
Forced is a property of the subtitle track which indicates that the subtitles should be displayed by default. Some players allow you to override this whilst others don’t.
The English subtitles on the German release are for the hearing impaired (SDH) and so will also describe aspects of the soundtrack. This could be quite annoying if you only really want subtitles for the non-English parts. Still the best we currently have in a steelbook release.

Fair. I agree, sdh will be a little irritating, still a preference over not being able to understand anything in Chinese lol
So we've established
1) Not the same steelbook from France
2) Instead of bare metal, we get a white component
3) Should be a better steelbook overall
What would REALLY make this pop, however, would give it the Mondo treatment with all those layers of paint. It really could reflect the print that was done.
