Fallout 3 is an action role-playing game released by Bethesda Game Studios.[5][10] The third major game in the Fallout series, it was released in North America on October 28, 2008, in Europe and Australia on October 30, 2008, and in the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 31, 2008.[4] It is available on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 video game consoles as well as the Windows operating system.

Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277, 36 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear war that devastated the game's world.[11] The game places the player in the role of an inhabitant of Vault 101, a survival shelter designed to protect a small number of humans from the nuclear fallout. When the player's father disappears in mysterious circumstances, the player is forced to escape from the Vault and journey into the ruins of Washington D.C. to track him down. Along the way the player is assisted by a number of other human survivors and must battle a myriad of enemies that now inhabit the wasteland. The game has an attribute and combat system typical of an action role-playing game but also incorporates elements of first-person shooter and survival horror games.

Following its release, Fallout 3 received a positive response from critics who praised in particular the game's open-ended gameplay and flexible character-levelling system. It has been compared to the 2007 video game BioShock for its setting and use of elements from mid-twentieth century American culture.[12] Critics have also noted several flaws in the game, such as the lack of precision in real-time combat and numerous glitches and crashes that can affect the player's progression through the game.[13] Public reception was overwhelmingly positive on release according to the game's high sales figures, particularly when compared to previous titles in the Fallout series.

We’re just heard that Bethesda’s announced a new Fallout game - titled Fallout: New Vegas - at its London showcase.

Apparently it’s the same style of title as Fallout 3.

We’re waiting on more detail.

Even More Fallout 3 Coming
What's this about PS3 expansions? We've got exclusive details here.

May 19, 2009 - The Microsoft exclusive for Fallout 3's downloadable add-ons won't exist for much longer, as Bethesda has announced plans to bring all downloadable content for Fallout 3 to PlayStation 3. The fun isn't over for Fallout 3 PC and Xbox 360 owners just yet, however. Bethesda has also announced two new expansions, titled Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta, that will come to Microsoft platforms first.

Fallout 3 PS3 DLC nearing completion

Bethesda?s Pete Hines has revealed that the firm is currently sprinkling the finishing touches on Fallout 3?s Operation: Anchorage DLC for the PlayStation 3, though a solid release date has yet to be decided.

According to Hines, the content - which hit PC and 360 earlier this year - requires a fair amount work in order to get it up and running on Sony?s black box: ?Yes, quite a bit actually," he told Eurogamer. "It's a different platform with a different way of doing things and it requires special attention and plenty of testing before it's released."

"We are trying to put the finishing touches on it now, but as I said above it's a different task than DLC on another platform, and so there are things we have to finish doing and testing before it's done on PS3."

Elsewhere, Hines confirmed that the final batch of DLC - Mothership Zeta - will be with us in late July.

"Haven't set a final date yet," explained Hines, "[but] should have one before too long."

"What's in store? Alien abduction done really, really well. What more do you need to know?"

Stay tuned.

Fallout 3 Game of the Year coming in October

PlayStation 3 owners can get their hands on the Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition soon. Both Amazon and GameStop list the Game of the Year Edition, which includes the game with all five DLC packs, for $59.99 USD for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and $49.99 USD for the PC.

The DLC packs will include Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta. Both Amazon and GameStop list an October 13 release date. It looks like PS3 owners who haven’t purchased Fallout 3 may want to wait until October to buy Fallout 3 with all the DLC packs.
