The problem is that it's been reported that 4k will be tied into the internet so you'll have to activate it on your player and it will be player specific so it'll be no to different to downloading or streaming. Total waste of time. I want to own my disc and play it on whatever machine I choice. I will stick to blu-ray. Format dead in the water before it begins.

If what I've heard it true, doesn't surprise me. The studios are obsessed with wanting to have total control over what you watch so such a development doesn't really surprise me one bit.....

Separately, the Ultra HD Blu-ray standard does not require a player to be connected to the Internet to get authorization to play a disc. Studios, however, have the option to remotely store encryption keys, thus requiring an Internet connection.
It does sound bad but whether they actually utilise this feature is another story. I think there would be an outcry if they did and they would be forced to remove it.
