I was reading something on Amazon which is a little misleading: is this like 3D where you have to have a Compatable blu-ray player and TV to play the disc? Or are these also higher resolution discs that can work on any player?

Amazon made it seem like they'll play in any blu-ray player.

If I've read into and been told right, these will play in normal BD players and will look better (like the Superbit DVDs used too), but to take full advantage you'd need a 4k player and TV

That is spot on, these are just standard Blu-rays with the bit rate maxed out. You lose any extras but the PQ is supposed to be better.

The Blu Ray on my Steelbook edition looks grainy in some places, so will they REALLY sort that out for this release? XD

Judging off a few reviews it seems they have managed to remove some of the grain from the transfer. I found the original to be too grainy as well, there was lots of detail but the grain was overwhelming at times. I think I am going to pick this one up.

That means another format "4k blu-ray" or whatever they gonna call it. You have to buy a new player, tv and receiver that support the format to watch and hear the real capability of 4k. And then 3 years from now they will release 8k.

Always going to happen, but its good to see at least these things can play on our regular Blu Ray Players.......for now anyways.

as i read it on another site these are just a con much like superbit releases on dvd. yes the bit rate is maxed out but its not true 4k

well, the powers that be haven't decided yet how to deliver 4K content yet. Yes these new "mastered in 4K" BD's are basically normal BD's with the bitrate maxed out like superbit was (which was also coined by Sony)

The exception is though that they fixed the errors with the original Ghostbusters BD so i'm happy
