Karen Gillan to Star in Assassin Action Movie 'Gunpowder Milkshake'

Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji star Karen Gillan has signed on to toplineGunpowder Milkshake, an action thriller from Studiocanal and The Picture Company.

Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, the duo behind the dark Israeli breakout Big Bad Wolves, are directing the project. The pair also wrote the script with Ehud Lavski.

Plot details are being kept muzzled, but the pic is described as being in the assassin genre with a story that spans multiple generations. The entire cast is envisioned as being all-female, with Gillan the cornerstone.

Kill Bill, the opus by Big Bad Wolves fan Quentin Tarantino, and Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver are the touchstones of the project, with "stylish," "snappy" and "violent" its watchwords.

The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce Gunpowder Milkshake through their overall deal with Studiocanal.

Gillan, who last year made her directorial feature debut with the indie The Party's Just Beginning, has risen to be a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing as Nebula in the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies and last year’s $2 billion hit, Avengers: Infinity War. She is slated to return for Avengers: Endgame this summer.

The actress is also one of the stars of the rebooted Jumanji franchise and will shoot Jumanji 2 alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black in February. The plan is to lens Gunpowder Milkshake after that, with production eyeing a Berlin shoot in the spring.

Described as being a violent mix of Kill Bill and Baby Driver, the upcoming action-thriller Gunpowder Milkshake certainly has our full attention, with Karen Gillan (Oculus, Guardians of the Galaxy) set to star as a badass assassin. How does all of this get even better, you ask? Well, you add Lena Headey (Dredd, “Game of Thrones”) of course!

Angela Bassett has signed on to co-star in Gunpowder Milkshake, the action thriller from Studiocanal and The Picture Company. Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado are directing the film from a script that they wrote with Ehud Lavski. Bassett, whose recent credits include the smash hit Black Panther, Bumblebee, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout, is joining previously announced stars Lena Headey and Avengers: Endgame’s Karen Gillan.

The pic is said to be a high-concept female-centric assassin thriller that spans multiple generations. Angela will play Anna May, one of the unassuming leaders of a massive armory.

The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce through their overall deal with Studiocanal.

Bassett, a Golden Globe winner for her iconic performance as Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It, is a mainstay on FX’s American Horror Story anthology series, which has earned her multiple Emmy nominations. Up next, she can be seen starring opposite Patricia Arquette in the Netflix film, Otherhood.

Bassett is repped by Gersh, Lighthouse Entertainment and Fox Rothschild.

Paul Giamatti Joins Karen Gillan in Assassin Thriller 'Gunpowder Milkshake'

Paul Giamatti, who stars in Showtime’s acclaimed series Billions, has joined the high-powered cast of Gunpowder Milkshake, an action thriller from Studiocanal and The Picture Company.

Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, the duo behind the dark Israeli breakout Big Bad Wolves, are directing the project, which already has Avengers: Endgame’s Karen Gillan, Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey and Angela Bassett (Black Panther) on the hit list as it heads toward a June 3 production start in Berlin.

Plot details are being kept in the shell casing but the script, which Keshales and Papushado wrote with Ehud Lavski, is described as centering on a mother-daughter assassin duo played by Gillan and Headey.

Most of the cast will be female, but Giamatti is one of the few male leads. The details for his character are also being muzzled, but it is known that he is a person to whom all others are connected.

Giamatti, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in the 2006 boxing drama Cinderella Man, garnered raves for his work last year opposite Kathryn Hahn in Netflix’s Private Life and also appeared in dramas I Think We’re Alone and The Catcher Was a Spy.

The actor, who has a role with Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming Jungle Cruise, currently stars with Damian Lewis in the financial drama Billions. The show is airing its fourth season.

Giamatti is repped by UTA, Perri Kipperman Mangement and Sloane Offer.

Michelle Yeoh has committed to star in Gunpowder Milkshake, joining Avengers: Endgame and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Karen Gillan, Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey, Black Panther‘s Angela Bassett and Billions‘ Paul Giamatti. Pic is a female-driven high-concept assassin story that has a rich mythology and spans multiple generations.

Written and directed by Big Bad Wolves‘ Navot Papushado, the film begins shooting at the Babelsberg FilmStudio in Germany, with principal photography commencing June 3. Ehud Lavski has co-written.

Studiocanal and The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona & Alex Heineman produce. Papushado’s Big Bad Wolves’ partner Aharon Keshales is exec producer.

Yeoh is coming off shooting the Avatar sequels, Crazy Rich Asians and Star Trek: Discovery. She returns to the action game after Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonand the 007 film Tomorrow Never Dies. She is represented by her manager David Unger of Artist International.

The Navot Papushado-directed action thriller Gunpowder Milkshakehas set Carla Gugino as a lethal assassin in the film’s final piece of casting. Gugino will star alongside will star alongside Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett and Paul Giamatti. The film shoots this summer in Berlin. Plot is being kept under wraps but it is described as a high-concept assassin story that has a rich mythology and spans several generations.

Gugino will play part of a secret sisterhood who come together to help Gillan’s character when things go south. Pic was scripted by Big Bad Wolves‘ helmer Papushado, and Ehud Lavski. It shoots at the Babelsberg FilmStudio June 3.

Studiocanal and The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona & Alex Heineman produce. Papushado’s Big Bad Wolves’ partner Aharon Keshales is exec producer. Studiocanal will release in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and France, and is selling the rest of world at Cannes. It is co-repping U.S. rights with UTA.
