I have an 880 and use the cheap blu-wave IR sensor (got it even cheaper thanks to Circuit City bankruptcy). It works pretty well... only downside is that can't turn ps3 on but ps3 turns on when I put a disk in so doesn't bother me that much.

That said I will be getting one of these real soon... lol. It will be much easier to use the adapter since it has all of the ps3 commands... the ps3 button being the biggest reason for me to get it.
