Metal Gear Solid father Hideo Kojima has conceded that sometimes even he finds the popular stealth action franchise a tad confusing, hence the reason why he created detailed character timelines to refer to while developing the games.

Speaking to Eurogamer at GamesCom, Kojima stated, "I personally get confused too about the whole timeline and saga of Metal Gear Solid.”

"This is especially tricky when you create the future first and then go back in time to create something new. There are a lot of small aspects where sometimes it doesn't match completely."

The Kojima Productions boss went on to say that he produced detailed timelines while working on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which chronicled each characters involvement in the series as well as key non-fictional events such as the growing tension between the United States and the Soviet Union in the years following WWII.

Kojima-san is currently working on Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP as well as keeping an eye on development of Metal Gear Solid: Rising for PS3 and Xbox 360.
