I have only been collecting for a short time, but already I feel like it maybe time to stop. It just feels like the magic has been lost already, I mean for christs sake see how many titles Zavvi have knocked out of late, gods knows how many more before the year is out, just releasing any old title willy nilly. I remember when play stopped trading alot of people thought that was doomsday for the steel, but it has been quite the opposite.

Price is a huge factor for me, £17.99 should be the max a steel book should be IMHO, this £20+ is a joke now, but as long as people are ready and willing to dip there hands in there pockets and shell out these prices (for fear of missing out) then prices will only go one way. I don't blame the company's, it is simple supply and demand, and you cannot blame them for milking it, nor scalpers for making a tidy buck. A fool and his money are easily parted after all.

It is all to easy to get wrapped up in the hype around these (Exclusive) steels, especially if you are a newcomer to the game (like me).

Some try to justify price, "yeah but it is embossed/debossed, must be worth it" no, I do not buy into for a second. At the end of the day it is a thin wrap of metal, with a plastic tray with a disc inside, with some fancy artwork on it. Quality street can manage to supply you with a Embossed tin full of chocolate for a fiver, make of that what you will.

Anyway, had to get that off my chest

You have really hit home with that statement. I've cancelled my order now. I know it won't make much a difference to Zavvi but who knows.

I've bought. But cancelled my orders of Planet of the Apes and Die Hard to fund it; I've also told them that this release is why I'm cancelling.

I'll be getting this release. But there'll be less and less re-release buys from me if they keep this up.

I'm not a cat. They can't milk me!!!!

The story of the thread so far then: moan about the price, moan about the artwork, moan about the lack of features, moan about the print run (which we are still only speculating). Then at the end of it all, order it anyway. Not just one but multiple copies. Zavvi must think we are a bunch of mugs and the truth is most of us are. I have ordered one copy but I may cancel down the road if it turns out Zavvi have the correct artwork listed and nothing exclusive. I can deal with the pricing on Disney classics, those may be the only Steelbooks those titles ever get. The Marvel films are going to be milked for every penny though, so even if by some miracle every single version of this sells out, I'm sure anyone who misses out will have multiple chances in the future when more Avengers films are released.
Look at avengers assemble, a much bigger film and Disney... What's the value of its steels now... Worldwide artwork isn't going to reap any benefits, hmv managed to sell avengers at a reasonable price... No way can this price be justified.

For now.

:movie:

The point is what's the status if steelbook at time of release. We don't have a crystal ball to see future releases. All we know is this is not exclusive artwork while jb and lm were.

why would zavvi lower the ridiculous prices when people seem more than happy to pay for them, zavvi are laughing their heads off as long as people continue to support these prices, well I'm sure this will just be the start of the expensive steelbooks as long as zavvi use the excuse of them being popular and limited.

But if you put those Steelbooks with this Steelbook, and then choose another one to put you over £70 you can use the £7 savings code.

I am not ordering this as well. I have no avengers steel except Avengers Movie itself. And I cannot pay the price at which right now, all avengers steels are sold. My pocket won't allow. No dis-respect meant for anyone's prices.
And somewhere down the road I am expecting that marvel will release phase 2 box-set. And when Phase one box-set price would come down to 100 usd, I will buy phase 1 at that time. And later on when phase 2 releases, I will directly buy that.

I was just told this by Zavvi.

The only reason the Iron Man 3 steel book is slightly higher is due to the popularity of the item and how limited the stock is which we have.

limited stock? don't all their steelbooks have a limited stock and don't we were told this will have a higher print run like LM and JB? and how limited can it be when they sharing the artwork with italy, spain and maybe some other countries?

whats left is the higher popularity which means in other words as long as it sells we can rise the price :ass:

Gone with the German release....pretty damn sure its the same release with far less inflated release.....dont care where I get my release or how rare it is as long as I get the steelbook of the movie I like...simple!

Yeah it's all good saying that the price is high because of how limited their allocation is, but exactly how limited is it? I can't see it being under 10k (or even 20k).

I say Entertainment Store and everyone's strange willingness to happily pay their inflated prices has got us in this screwed situation with UK exclusives. Zavvi's just doing what we set em up to do.

Yeah but ES exclusives were only like 500, 1k, 3k print runs (shared with other countires of course, just like IM3) and they had exclusive stickers on them etc.
IM3 is apparently quite a high print run so should be cheaper

Yeah? Is that so? THEN WHY THE HELL ARE 28 DAYS LATER AND THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW 15.99 INSTEAD OF 14.99???

JUST CATALOGUE RELEASES PEOPLE!!!!!!!

:

Yes because half a pound of cheap chocolate (toffee) costs the same to produce , license and market as a billion dollar earning superhero Blu Ray Disc.

Steelbooks are just packaging, I doubt they add very much to the cost of production of the overall release.

The price is set by Disney (not known as the most generous of corporations) Based on what they think they can charge. It is further discounted by Zavvi. What was the wholesale price of this release , it's usually around 50% of rrp, but in negotiating for an exclusive Zavvi probably had to pay a slightly higher price (also limiting the UK run - though it appears to part of the global run) . Disney also chose the art, a global print run is cheaper for them. Disney don't like the idea of a profitable 2nd hand market (they make nothing from it) so charge a premium for the first release

But of course why do Disney & Zavvi think they can charge this amount ? Because of places like this. 60 plus pages of people posting about a release before it gets officially announced , whether negative or not shows interest. Constant postings about print runs, who will order , who won't , will it be valuable (on this and other threads) means that companies like Disney & Zavvi can see a profit. Of course how dare a shop charge a high price for something you want , or Disney release something you want with a pretty wrapper that you actually want more than the contents.

Not saying any of this is right or proper

1st post, good start eh ?

its almost certainly way higher than 10k as its a new release and uk exclusive..
the studio would be stupid to sell a low quantity when the demand is this huge
