I know there has to be some older steelbook collectors who started with G1's. I have 66 G1 steelbooks and yesterday with the purchase of the 3 bourne movies I officially now have 67 G2 steelbooks with of course one more to come today with the Dark Knight Rises.

My very first ever steelbook was the Departed purchased February 13th 2007. My very first bluray steelbook was Snow White released October 6th 2009. At first the only bluray steelbooks I bought were the $5 preorder steels at Best Buy like Up and Pirates of the Caribbean 4. I got my first bluray player last August for my birthday and then in the last year really started to collect bluray steelbooks, at the time I probably had just 6-8 bluray steelbooks. So almost 5 years for G2 to catch up with G1 :)

I only had 3 DVD G1 steels when I first joined, 2 weeks later I had 13 BR G2 steels. I hate my G1's I want to get rid of them all.

I was wrong I didn't pass when I counted my steels I forgot my Dr Who Season 4 and Harry Potter 6 G1's were with their respective collections instead of with my other steels. That means I had 68 G1's, the Dark Knight Rises takes my G2s to 68 as well so I am just tied right now will pass on Tuesday with the Bourne Legacy.

Can I ask what might seem like a stupid question, but I am new here :(

what is a G1 and a G2 Steelbook, is it something only available in the USA ?

Nope not exclusive to USA.

G1 = DVD size.

G2 = blu-ray size.

These are used to designate that the dvd size steelbook came first (hence the 1) and the blu-ray size came second (as in the 2).

And occasionally you see a US steel even though its a bluray in a G1 steelbook like Green Lantern and Fast Five. A little research helps before buying if your worried.

My G1's didn't hold out long though as I went to Best Buy and picked up the 3 Lotr's because hey I was already going to see the Hobbit and I can save $ 5 a ticket and they are on sale this week for $9.99 and you just can't buy 1 afterall. So G2 is now 71.

I believe I have around 130 G1's, and I know I surpassed 100 G2's last year with PLAY.com's exclusive waves, so it's logical to assume I have well over 130 G2's by now.

EDIT: Having just spent most of yesterday afternoon counting my SteelBook collection, it appears that I have well and truly smashed the number of Blu-Ray to Dvd SteelBooks ratio by nearly 2:1! I knew I had amassed a lot of Blu-Ray SteelBooks, but it wasn't that long ago that I was counting down to my 100th Blu-Ray milestone
