L.A. Noire is an upcoming video game developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games. L.A. Noire is set in "a perfectly re-created Los Angeles" of the late 1940s, with players being given an open-ended challenge to solve a series of murders.

As the title suggests, the game draws heavily from both plot and aesthetic elements of film noir - stylistic films from the 1940s and 1950s that shared similar visual styles and themes including, but not limited to, crime, sex and moral ambiguity and were often shot in black and white with harsh, low-key lighting.

The game uses a distinctive colouring-style in homage to the visual style of film noir. The postwar setting is the backdrop for plot elements that reference the detective films of the '40s, such as corruption and drugs, with a classical jazz soundtrack.

Though little information has been disclosed so far about L.A. Noire, Rockstar gives an impression of the game in the first trailer. L.A. Noire is also notable for using Darksprint's real-time global illumination technology.

New L.A. Noire Trailer Examines Investigation & Interrogation

In LA Noire, you're caught up in the investigations surrounding a prolific serial killer in 1947 Los Angeles, where the brutalised corpses of young women are being left out in the open for the LAPD to find, all as part of the killer's sick game. Enter Detective Cole Phelps, a good cop with a murky past, who's quick to climb the ranks from patrol to homicide.

Liaising with the coroner at the crime scene, you'll examine the clues as Phelps, scrutinise for evidence and then follow leads to confront the key people that may or may not be involved in the foul play surrounding the horrific murders. As such, you'll have to carefully question and interrogate your suspects, without pushing too hard, lest they clam up completely.

Rockstar and Team Bondi have today released a new trailer focusing on the investigation and interrogation aspects of LA Noire, check it out.

L.A. Noire main story clocks in at 25-30 hours

Rockstar’s informed select press members at PAX East that its upcoming 1940s-based thriller L.A. Noire will take around 25-30 hours to complete.

The game’s main campaign throws up 23 meaty missions to tackle, though players will still have plenty to tuck into in the form of the myriad of side quests and DLC up for grabs.

I can't wait for this game. Devs mentioned that all the exclusive items will eventually make it to DLC so wherever you choose to pre-order know that the rest of the DLC will eventually come out for everyone.

'L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories' Anthology Coming in June

LANoireBooks.jpg

Rockstar has partnered with Mulholland Books to bring a series of short stories based upon the characters and cases from LA Noire in a collected anthology, which will be made available for download via all major eBook retailers this June.

Renowned writers including Megan Abbott, Lawrence Block, Joe Lansdale, Joyce Carol Oates, Francine Prose, Jonathan Santlofer, Duane Swierczynski and Andrew Vachss will each contribute their own stories featuring familiar LA Noire characters set in post-wartime Los Angeles where 1940s Hollywood is a hive of murder, corruption, deceit and mystery.

"L.A. Noire draws on a rich history of not just film, but also great crime literature for inspiration," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Using the game's world as a springboard, we worked with the genre's best writers to create stories that lived up to the finest traditions of crime fiction."

LA Noire: Collected Stories will explore the lives of actresses desperate for Hollywood fame, fallen heroes and classic Noir villains, featuring recognisable characters from the game, which is set to release on May 17th in North America and May 20th in Europe. Select stories will be available from various media outlets and the collected volume will be available to download from June 6th, 2011. You can read an excerpt from "The Girl" by Megan Abbott www.rockstargames.com now.

Rockstar details L.A. Noire Social Club features

Rockstar’s rolled out the first details on its Social Club features for the Team Bondi-developed thriller, L.A. Noire.

According to a report on the company’s official website, Rockstar Games Social Club members will be able to get their mitts on an unlockable Chicago Lightning Detective Suit for the game, which boosts the accuracy of the Shotgun and machine gun.

In addition to the above, members can also take advantage of an ‘Ask the Community’ feature, which allows users to ask fellow gamers for help in regards to ‘finding the truth when interrogating a suspect.’

Lastly, members will be rewarded with the typical array of stat tracking and friend comparison features available in previous Rockstar titles.

L.A. Noire will be released on PlayStation 3 in the U.S. on May 17, with a European launch scheduled for May 20.

This game is awesome! You have a lot of choices to solve each crime if you appropriately find all the clues to each case. Each case gives you options to interrogate, during interrogation the suspects have personalities and you can either decide that they are lying or not and go from there. These choices will either give you new clues or just right down lead you down the wrong path. I played a few cases and I am loving this game.

L.A. Noire Packing Heat as Overheating Issue Hits PS3

While playing LA Noire last week, we encountered no problems whatsoever, but there may be a fault with the game that is reportedly causing some consoles to overheat. Following reports that PlayStation 3's Firmware 3.61 might be to blame for the overheating on Sony's console, it has since emerged that this is not the case, hinting that the game itself may be the issue.

A Sony spokesperson told MCV that the PS3 3.61 firmware is not to blame for LA Noire overheating consoles, noting that the issue is actually affecting other consoles too. "As with the release of any System Update, we will invariably see a very small number of users whose console has failed following updating their console, which is an unfortunate coincidence," the Sony rep stated. "Rockstar have now updated their FAQ on the matter, have admitted that it is a fault with their latest title LA Noire and have offered a work around. It should also be noted that the issue with this title is not PS3 specific and is also affecting other consoles."

Rockstar customer support is advising that users encountering freezing or crashing as a result of overheating delete their game data (not their save data). Work is currently underway to find a solution to the issue, but for now Rockstar is also advising that users open a temporary user account to ensure that save files are created.

For further reading on the matter, give Rockstar's LA Noire support page the once over. LA Noire is out now in North America and hits Europe tomorrow.

good luck to all
