Oh, I have rare ones. What if I said the majority are still sealed? Ie, Dead Rising.

I'll write up a list shortly & post it here

Many steelbooks never came sealed.

Dead Rising isn't so rare.

Mirrors Edge, Need for Speed Underground, Assassins Creed 2, Assassins Creed Brotherhood Stickerbook, Call of Duty Black Ops Stickerbook, Yakuza 4 Shiro Edition, Saints Row 2, Gran Turismo 5 Stickerbook, Star Wars the Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition these are some very rare steelbooks for example.

I don't collect foreign SteelBooks as a rule. UK releases only, I'm afraid! I especially don't touch StickerBooks if I can help it (aside from Vanquish and MGS HD Collection)

Dead Rising is rumoured to have been limited to only 5,000 units. Sealed examples are especially rare to find.

The majority of UK video game SteelBooks do indeed come sealed, and very few don't. The exceptions are usually those that are given away as pre-order bonuses, although some (like Sniper: Ghost Warrior or Yakuza 4 Kuro Edition) only came sticker sealed. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 came inside a sticker sealed plastic slipcover

Uk videogame steelbooks aren't rare. Sorry but that sounds like you got no clue about rare videogamesteelbooks and if you collect only videogamesteelbooks which are released in uk that is nothing special although if they are sealed.

Nice collection but there is no very rare steelbook and you are not in the top category with that collection, to be in the top category you need to collect steelbooks from other countries because there are not so many videogame steelbooks like movie steelbooks.

The only reason those non-UK SteelBooks are considered "rare" is because they weren't widely available outside their specific countries. They are probably no less common than any other SteelBook, and the majority of SteelBook releases are around 4,000 units. No doubt collectors from those countries consider some UK releases "rare" for the exact same reasons

Mirror's Edge and the like are undoubtedly quite limited, but most likely sold very well in their respective countries, much the same as how some GAME exclusive PS3 SteelBooks sold out on pre-orders here. Mirror's Edge is sought after because it's a game that a lot of people loved, and considered "rare" because few people want to part with it or because very few Spanish people want to ship outside of their country. I doubt very much that the print run is any less than the majority of other video game SteelBooks released

I would gladly wager that a factory sealed copy of Dead Rising would be in more demand and sell for more money than a used Mirror's Edge SteelBook

I would also add that being sealed is where the rarity is in my collection, rather than the titles themselves. Eg, The Resident Evil 4 SteelBook for the PS2 is reasonably common, but sealed examples are incredibly rare to come across

Well that is not true, videogame steelbooks from spain or the netherlands or belgium are more rare then videogamesteelbooks from canada, uk or germany for example and the value of a steelbook also depends on if you can you get them without buying the game or not.

I can just tell you which steelbooks are rare and that the most videogame steelbooks which were released in uk, were released in other countries, too.

You have a very nice collection Heche

I respect anyone that can limit what they collect. I've never been able to

A Sealed Dead Rising Steel is indeed very rare but unfortunately desirability plays such a large part in the value of a steel and a sealed Dead Rising just isn't as in demand as an open Mirror's Edge imo

I've seen mint open copies of mirror's edge reach 250 euro before granted prices now are much lower

Still I have doubts a sealed Dead rising would breach 50 GBP but again my opinion

Another very rare Xbox steel to find sealed is the french Saints Row 1 steel

I've seen someone try to sell that before and they had a hard time getting 50 - 60 euro for it even though it pops up maybe once every 2 years vs. an open mirror's edge which pops up at least 4 or 5 times a year

Anyways I do agree that the G2's seen as grails (Mirror's edge, Saints row 2 G2, NFS Undercover) most likely had a run size of at least 4000 and thus aren't super limited but Dead Rising likely was a MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) run as well which is 8000 for G1 (4000 for G2)

But stickerbooks are more limited, standard MOQ is 1000 units for either G1/G2 so they certainly have the potential to be the rarest steelbooks

We have had confirmation from Scanovo that the Belgian G2 stickerbooks (Uncharted 3, Killzone 3) were limited to 550 copies as a special deal done with Mediamarkt BE so I consider those to be the "rarest" G2 steels even though they're not the most valuable

Unfortunately actual rarity is not as important as perceived rarity when it comes to the value of steelbooks

Just my thoughts of course

The community seems to be largely determining what the prices are for steelbooks. I think there are alot of absolutely stunning steelbooks that go for next to nothing (Need for speed most wanted), while some pretty ugly ones demand incredible prices.

Steelbook pricing on the second-hand market is one of the oddest things I know, because it seems to be completely random. I guess that's what makes it interesting.

lol yep it's all about what people perceive to be rare and perceptions can be ridiculous

The Dead Island stickerbook was touted as being among the rarest G1's at a 1000 run but in truth it was 1000/1100 for Spain AND a 1000/1100 for Italy so far less rare

Still one of the rarest but those things used to go for quite a lot more than they do currently

So many factors involved as well though. The franchise/IP associated with the steel also affects the price usually

For instance Assassin's Creed steelbooks are far more collectible than a lot of other franchises

To be honest at the end of the day, few steelbooks are really that limited

Collecting sealed ones is certainly more of a challenge but still never crazy limited

I don't care if steelbooks are sealed or not because many videogamesteelbooks never came sealed, Tomb Raider Germany for example never came sealed but got a cardboard slipcover.

Another example when I opened my sealed copy of far cry 3 ps3 version and the metal gear rising steelbooks which were also sealed, I have seen that although they were sealed they got scratches.

To avoid new scratches or dents, I have bought special blue-ray and DVD slipcovers for all of my steelbooks so if I think they are better protected then sealed steelbooks.

Yeah there has been a lot of arguements among Blu Ray Steel collectors about how close a truly mint open steel can come to a sealed steel because sealed steels can have damage hidden behind the paper inserts

I think some collectors prefer a mint unsealed to a sealed as there's no chance you may have just shelled out big money for a dented steel

Sealed always sell for more though but I understand the concept

I think there is also a difference between movie steelbooks and videogamesteelbooks about beeing sealed or not.

I have never seen an unsealed movie steelbook if it's brand new for sale available in a store.

About videogamesteelbooks it is different they are often only sealed if the steelbook is the gamecase for the game and the game is inside in the steelbook if they are just pre-order bonus a lot of them are unsealed.

So that is why I see a big difference between videogame and movie-steelbooks about that.

With my post about my far cry 3 steelbook copy, I just wanted to give an example that about sealed steelbooks you can't be 100% sure that there no damages like scratches or dents.

Have around 15. Didn't really focus on collecting Video Game steals until about a year ago and actually had a bunch from back in the day that I had forgotten about so it was fun going back and finding them
