This is a Day one purchase for me! its a Ridley Scott Film!!
Love both cuts of the film and both the Jerry Goldsmith and Tangerine Dream Scores respectivly!
I still have the Ultimate Edition 2 disc DVD and wont be trading it in as i love the cover art for that release soooooo much better!
I understand Universal Pictures' mindset in trying to market this film in a different light to give it some fresh appeal to the younger crowd by giving its cover art a "Twilight meets Lord of the rings" treatment... but I think it is ****! it totally erases the cinematic theme of the film!! The original cover had a fullsize shot of Darkness (Tim Curry), and in his hand he was holding an image of Jack (Tom Cruise), Lilly (Mia Sara) and the Unicorn. Not only did this look sooo much better but it explained the relationship of what exactly was in tha balance! The colorful life of beauty and love, threatened to be engulfed by the rising Darkness.
by the end of the film the original cover art takes on new life because you can see that it also represents that even the dimmest of Lights can keep out the Darkness.
