Story
Lost Planet 2, offers deeper insight into the world of E.D.N III, the fictional NEVEC (Neo-Venus Construction) Corporation's attempt to control the flow of Thermal Energy (T-ENG), that is the key to survival on the harsh planet, and the uncertain fate of mankind as they battle the huge insect creatures known as Akrid. A decade has passed since the events of the first game, and the face of E.D.N. III has changed dramatically. Terraforming efforts have been successful and the ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and harsh unforgiving deserts. Players will enter this new environment and follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirate on their quest to seize control of the changing planet.

Gameplay
Lost Planet 2, like the original game in the series, is a third-person shooter featuring huge boss battles, challenging terrain and the ability to pop in and out of battle mechs, known in-game as Vital Suits. The primary difference in gameplay this time around hinges on the inclusion of RPG gameplay elements. Players can now customize many of the aspects of their playable snow pirate, including his physical attributes, clothing and to a certain extent, weaponry and gestures. Players will control these customized heroes across 6 interconnected episodes, creating a truly unique and interactive experience that changes depending upon the actions of the players involved. With this concept, players will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a much more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from different players' perspectives.

Multiplayer
Beyond the deep single player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with extensive multiplayer modes and play options. This includes 16-player online versus action, as well as a 4-player online co-op support. In addition, the intense and action packed campaign mode allows for 4-player online co-op play to clear mission objectives with friends, unlockable weapons and the ability to resurrect fallen comrades.

Weaponry and Gadgets
No action game would be complete without an arsenal of weaponry, and to that end Lost Planet 2 comes loaded with a huge variety of hardware for players to unleash on unsuspecting enemies. Machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, lasers, sniper rifles, grenades and a host of other weapons are scattered across the game. However, Lost Planet 2's biggest weapons come on two legs: the heavily armed and armored robotic Vital Suits return in greater numbers and variety than the first game. There are Vital Suits that transform into other vehicles, and even some that hold up to three players and take multiple players to operate. Also, the grappling hooks that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3D experience are back, allowing gamers to gain tactical advantage by quickly scaling buildings.

Download the Lost Planet 2 Demo and Capcom Will Donate To Charity

Last week Capcom announced that 22nd April will see a new Lost Planet 2 versus demo hit the PlayStation Store, but just in case the promise of slaying towering beasties wasn't enough of an incentive to get the demo in, Capcom has also put together a $20,000 charity fund for the first 1 million downloads.

The "Kill Big For Charity" campaign ties-in to the multiplayer demo, and will kick off as early subscribers begin to download it this week, continuing through to May 5th. If the downloads exceed the 1 million milestone by 500,000 on both PS3 and Xbox 360, then Capcom will also add an extra $5000 to the donation.

A donation will go to 'Music For Relief' for each demo downloaded, and will allow players to compete for a spot at a community celebrity/charity tournament hosted by Capcom Unity to take place at the game's launch party.

For more on early access codes, the charity program and the launch event, visit the LP2 community site at www.lostplanetcommunity.com

Lost Planet 2 is out on 11th May in Europe and North America.

I couldnt get the damn site to work, I signed up for capcom-unity forums and they never sent me the confirmation email to click so that I could then get my code. *sigh*

lol nah, you have to get confirmed first .... then enter your info on the engage url .... and since capcom wont send me a damn email I cant do step 2 ... oh well, no biggie. Although I wanted to get more time in to entice me to day 1 ... as of right now Im in no hurry for it but its on a list of wants along with Red Dead and Just Cause 2.

MP demo is out, I love the guns, and stuff around the jungle map you can get in and shoot, love the graphics, the cool grapeling hook etc.

HOWEVER, not a fan of the control mechanics ... God I hope they are customizable, I want my zoom in button to be like COD style not up on the directional pad.

sigh, no checkpoints in the game ... how frickin stupid. I'll probably pass on this, atleast for release ... maybe play it some other time.

Looks like Red Dead will get my moohlah.

That’s right, coming in June, PS3 owners will be able to download two skins of the Helghast characters from Killzone at no charge! These skins, in addition to the previously announced Monster Hunter skin which will be available later this month, are exclusive to PlayStation fans across the globe. From the “My Page” menu in Lost Planet 2, players can build and customize their own unique character for use in the online versus mode. Once a player completes the campaign mode, they can port their multiplayer characters to the co-op story action, including the in-game cut scenes. While there are numerous options for unlocking head, torso, arm, leg, and backpack pieces for your character, the character skins for Helghast, Monster Hunter, Dead Rising’s Frank West, and Resident Evil’s Albert Wesker must all be used as a single piece.

Capcom's Inafune-san "still believes" in Lost Planet

Capcom’s head of R&D and global production Keiji Inafune has admitted that although Lost Planet 2 wasn’t quite the runaway success the company had hoped for, he still firmly believes in the sci-fi franchise.

Speaking during a chinwag with the folks at Edge magazine, Inafune was keen to highlight the fact he had very little to do with development of the sequel, and that if a third outing were to materialise, he’d “definitely” have more involvement with the title.

"I came up with the concept for the original Lost Planet and got involved quite a bit," he said. "However, regrettably, Lost Planet 2 was done by someone else and I didn't really have any direct involvement. I still believe in the franchise, and if we do more with it I will definitely get involved directly."

He went on to observe that the key to perpetuating the success to any franchise is simple – good old fashioned love. Indeed, Infaune pointed out that if an IP is continued by the creator then this isn’t an issue, but when swapping up the producer or director – as often happens in a firm as large as Capcom - then the new face in charge has to share a fundamental interest in the franchise as whole in order for it to succeed.

"If a particular franchise or IP is continued by the creator, there is no problem. But in a large organisation that's not possible all the time. Therefore if you have to change the director or producer, etc, they would have to love the IP or franchise, including good points and bad points, as a whole. Without love, nothing happens,” he explained.

Inafune recently made headlines for his outspoken views on the state of the Japanese videogames industry, which he sees as lagging some five years behind the West.
