Story
Lost Planet 2, offers deeper insight into the world of E.D.N III, the fictional NEVEC (Neo-Venus Construction) Corporation's attempt to control the flow of Thermal Energy (T-ENG), that is the key to survival on the harsh planet, and the uncertain fate of mankind as they battle the huge insect creatures known as Akrid. A decade has passed since the events of the first game, and the face of E.D.N. III has changed dramatically. Terraforming efforts have been successful and the ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and harsh unforgiving deserts. Players will enter this new environment and follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirate on their quest to seize control of the changing planet.

Gameplay
Lost Planet 2, like the original game in the series, is a third-person shooter featuring huge boss battles, challenging terrain and the ability to pop in and out of battle mechs, known in-game as Vital Suits. The primary difference in gameplay this time around hinges on the inclusion of RPG gameplay elements. Players can now customize many of the aspects of their playable snow pirate, including his physical attributes, clothing and to a certain extent, weaponry and gestures. Players will control these customized heroes across 6 interconnected episodes, creating a truly unique and interactive experience that changes depending upon the actions of the players involved. With this concept, players will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a much more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from different players' perspectives.

Multiplayer
Beyond the deep single player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with extensive multiplayer modes and play options. This includes 16-player online versus action, as well as a 4-player online co-op support. In addition, the intense and action packed campaign mode allows for 4-player online co-op play to clear mission objectives with friends, unlockable weapons and the ability to resurrect fallen comrades.

Weaponry and Gadgets
No action game would be complete without an arsenal of weaponry, and to that end Lost Planet 2 comes loaded with a huge variety of hardware for players to unleash on unsuspecting enemies. Machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, lasers, sniper rifles, grenades and a host of other weapons are scattered across the game. However, Lost Planet 2's biggest weapons come on two legs: the heavily armed and armored robotic Vital Suits return in greater numbers and variety than the first game. There are Vital Suits that transform into other vehicles, and even some that hold up to three players and take multiple players to operate. Also, the grappling hooks that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3D experience are back, allowing gamers to gain tactical advantage by quickly scaling buildings.

Lost Planet 2 demo coming 'soon,' features 4-player co-op

If you were jealous that we got our greasy, unworthy hands on a 4-player co-op demo of Lost Planet 2 during our ransacking of E3 2009, you can now cool your jets -- according to producer Jun Takeuchi during an appearance on Famitsu's "Midnight Live 360," the same demo is coming to Xbox Live "soon." Actually, Takeuchi's exact words were, "soon, I guess," a sentiment that doesn't exactly fill us with optimism regarding the actual soon-ness of the demo's release.

Takeuchi showcased a number of new features during the Famitsu program, such as computer-controlled bots, custom weapon sets and character customization, which he explained can be done using items you unlock in tandem with certain achievements. We don't know whether any of these features will be present in the demo -- but if it's as similar to the E3 demo as Takeuchi says, it should be radical enough without them.

Capcom working on split-screen co-op for Lost Planet 2

Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi has revealed that the Lost Planet 2 development team are hoping to incorporate a split-screen co-op mode for the hotly anticipated alien shooter.

Fresh from his experience on action horror romp Resident Evil 5, Takeuchi said told Joystiq: “It’s not easy, but if we are confident that we can do it, we’ll let you know,” though conceded if the feature were implemented, some notable sacrifices would have to be made.

“Technically, cycling between two split screens, you can actually say it took visual RAM. You still have to work with two sets of AI and physics and so forth at the same time.”

Lost Planet 2 is due out later this year.

Co-op Lost Planet 2 demo coming soon

A co-op demo for Lost Planet 2, featuring two exclusive missions, will hit the PlayStation Network on September 24. Capcom dubs the demo as a chance for PS3 owners to experience a part of the Tokyo Game Show at home.

The demo will include the enormous G-Type Akrid, the boss Akrid of the episode 1, and two additional missions not already available on the Xbox 360 demo. The two new missions feature co-op extermination of the Akrid of E.D.N. III.

Capcom will also release the new TGS trailer, featuring the new desert environment and the even bigger Akrid. Both the trailer and the demo will be available on September 24.

Lost Planet 2 Gets a Slight Release Date Change

Lost Planet 2 must be shaping up much better than Capcom thought, because its brought the release date forward by a week, changing the launch from 18th May to 11th May.

More great Lost Planet 2 news, following earlier confirmation of a second multiplayer demo coming to PSN on April 22nd.

Not too shabby. Check out two new screens taken from the 'Turbulent Jungle' versus map which will feature in the demo.

Get Lost Again With a New Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Versus Demo Next Week

Lost Planet 2 sends you back to EDN III, taking on gigantic Akrid in the jungles that were hidden beneath that snow all along. Who knew?!

Normally, one demo is enough to get a feel for a game, but it's been quite a while since LP2's last multiplayer demo, which showcased the game's co-op.

Capcom has therefore decided to release the 'Turbulent Jungles' map from Lost Planet 2's competitive versus mode for up to 16-players on the PlayStation Store April 22nd.

If you can't wait until then though, you can get your hands on an early code for April 1st via LostPlanet2Game.com
Players who download and play the demo will also be rewarded when they purchase the full retail version of Lost Planet 2 by getting immediate access to the Machine Gun SP which fires three round bursts.

Clearly, you can never have too much of a good thing. Lost Planet 2 is out this May.
