Electronic Arts' reboot of the Medal of Honor series will be out this October, the publisher announced this morning.

The game, set in Afghanistan and with a realistic slant, will be out in the US on October 12. And Europe October 15.

Medal of Honor, the first game in the series to not take place between 1939-1945, looks set to fill a gap in the shooter market left vacant by Modern Warfare 2, when the latter tripped the light fantastic and became a Tom Clancy wet dream. It'll feature sand, terrorists being kicked out of windows, and beards. Magnificent beards.

well if you guys are still on, I might just hop on.

I usually play 3-5 games write the issues I have down, and add them to the BETA issue thread on EA's forums. Don't want to burn myself out during the BETA, and it is hard to play with some of the issues right now: lag when getting shot.

Medal of Honor: Here’s What You Want to Know

We’re fresh off a visit to EA’s Redwood Shores campus, where the teams behind Medal of Honor, Dead Space 2, and Shank showed us the latest post-E3 builds of their games, and then took time to answer the questions you posed to us earlier in the week. First up: Medal of Honor.

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="437" height="265" id="viddler"><param name="movie" value="http://www.viddler.com/simple_on_site/3b5d62c6" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="flashvars" value="fake=1"/><embed src="http://www.viddler.com/simple_on_site/3b5d62c6" width="437" height="265" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" flashvars="fake=1" name="viddler" ></embed></object>

On the new content front, the impressively-bearded Greg Goodrich (you may remember him from our E3 interview) demonstrated a mission from the single player mode. As a sniper perched high above an enemy encampment in the Afghan mountains, he picked off a number of enemies, eventually drawing attention to his location. As the enemies let loose with mortar fire, the player switched over to reverse infrared imaging to spot the artillery operators and counter-snipers hiding in the brush and to put high-caliber rounds in their skulls from over a kilometer away.

The audio was a standout here; the crackle of your CO’s orders over the radio and your spotter’s instructions seemed as true to life as most of us will ever get to a behind-enemy-lines situation.

Other news: the Medal of Honor beta is being extended in both time and scope – those of you who purchased Battlefield 1943 should now also have access to the MOH beta. Check out Medal of Honor on Twitter for more details.

Linkin Park To Headline Medal Of Honor Soundtrack

Keeping in tone with EA LA’s attitude in creating a military shooter with a serious theme, with none of that Hollywood flair that some say has polluted the Modern Warfare franchise, EA today announced that Linkin Park will headline the game’s soundtrack...

“The Catalyst,” a track from their upcoming A Thousand Suns album (releasing on September 14th), will feature in a trailer directed by the band’s DJ, Joe Hahn, that is set to be released on August 1st exclusively over at www.medalofhonor.com/linkinpark; a day before you’ll hear the song on the radio or catch it on iTunes – one day!? Aren’t you lucky!

According to the press-release, “the trailer is a unique first-of-its-kind mix of live footage and intense modern military action from the Medal of Honor game” and you can check out a preview of the song today at www.medalofhonor.com/linkinpark.

So yeah, I wonder whatever happened to that military shooter with a serious theme that EA were touting at the beginning of the year?

This just in.... Look out for the Medal of Honor soft drink next month, which unlocks an in-game inflatable giraffe that can be used as a gun emplacement. If that's not enough, pre-order the game at selected retailers and get the front-end of a pantomime cow costume that the Tier 1's can use to move through a village without raising an alarm...

Medal of Honor is coming October 12th and October 15th in North America and Europe respectively.

Hopped on the beta last night for 20 mins.. seems to have a ton of potential! Like Cali and some others have mentioned, the lag when getting shot/killed really sucks but I'm sure that will be fixed. If they fix up some issues and have enough unlockables and what not like the BF series does, then I'm all aboard!

3rd party via brightcove.com whomever uploaded it uses that service.

I was saddened to see assault rifles more accurate at long range then sniper rifles in the beta, or worse it was actually easier to kill someone with a pistol from range, a little too much sway even when crouched, without being able to go prone there really isn't anything the player can do to steady there aim.

The entire deathmatch was broken with enemies spawning behind you kinda made the whole thing pointless, especially when you thought you found a nice sniping location only to find out its a spawn zone with enemies spawning and knifing you.

All in all I just tagged it as another disappointment from dice, this is to me hoping the unreal side has a little more potential.

All in all it just made me put in Operation Flashpoint 2 Dragon Rising and do some long range sniping.

Rifleman is history, Sniper is history, boyscout with rusty pen knive is history, 2 the noob that ramboed is down, 2: 1 Seize fire friendly, "puts another round to be sure". :hilarious:

Though getting back on subject what was wrong with the maps, it seemed the maps got mixed up, picking tdm got you assault, and picking assault got you tdm, and sometimes it didn't matter what you picked you got tdm.

Maybe when this comes out ill rent it and try the single player, as I have more faith the snipers will not be so nerfed by the other dev team.

Medal of Honor reboot comes under fire from UK defence boss

British defence secretary Liam Fox has hit out at Electronic Arts’ forthcoming Medal of Honor reboot, branding the Afghanistan-based shooter as “tasteless” and calling for UK retailers not to stock the game upon its release this autumn.

Specifically, Fox’s comments appear to have been provoked by the fact the title allows players to assume the role of Taliban soldiers in the game’s multiplayer component.

“It’s shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban,” commented Fox. “At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands.

“I am disgusted and angry. It’s hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game. I would urge retailers to show their support for our armed forces and ban this tasteless product.”

EA has since responded to Fox’s outburst, telling the Sunday Times: “The format of the new Medal of Honor game merely reflects the fact that every conflict has two sides.

“We give gamers the opportunity to play both sides. Most of us have been doing this since we were seven: someone plays the cop, someone must be robber. In Medal of Honor multiplayer, someone’s got to be the Taliban.”

Medal of Honor is scheduled for release on October 15.

The PS Blog had a nice update to this game today. Based off of the feedback from the beta players.

Also, buying this game gives you access to the Battlefield 3 Beta!!!!

Beta Feedback: How You Helped Shape Medal of Honor’s Multiplayer

The Medal of Honor beta is now closed and we want to thank you, PlayStation fans, for supporting us! The turnout was tremendous and we could not have asked for a better experience.

4911785948_e31f2c5828_b.jpg

It is always great to do a true beta like this, because at the end of the day, this game is for you, the gamers. We received some amazing feedback and opted to extend the beta to make sure that we were able to hear as much of it as we could. Twitter, Facebook, and our forums have been blowing up with comments and we have been taking many notes.

We have learned a lot, and we wanted to take this opportunity to run down some of the major changes/fixes we have made to the game as a direct result of your feedback.

Improved Hit Detection

This was a very big issue and came up many times in the forums. We are glad to say that hit detection has been vastly improved. We really tightened up the mechanics and essentially, wherever the bullet hits on the body — that is where the hit registers. It is even possible to shoot and have the bullet go between someone’s legs – it is that precise!

Weapon Pickups

Out of ammo? No longer do you need to find an ammo crate. Find the nearest dead enemy/friendly and pick up their weapon. And remember, the knife knows no ammunition, so if you really want to be Tier 1 — pull out that bad boy and start slashing your way to victory.

4911184027_836918fbf3_b.jpg

Support Actions Balanced

We heard the outcry and we have made adjustments. The support actions were tweaked and are now more difficult to achieve. There is always a fine line between what is too hard and what is too easy, but we think we have balanced it pretty well. It is just not fun when you are getting nailed with rocket and mortar attacks every 20 seconds.

Unlock Tree Expanded and Balanced

Your ascension to Tier 1 status will now be even more eventful. The unlock tree has been expanded for every weapon, providing an extensive series of choices.

Crash Fixes

Every beta has its crashes and the Medal of Honor beta was no different. We know it is frustrating, but it is all part of the beta process. The good news is that we have fixed the crashes and resolved a number of connectivity issues.

Major Graphic Overhaul

The graphics have been overhauled and upgraded. We are happy to report that the game looks even more spectacular than before.

Weapons

The weapons are essential to gameplay, obviously, and we made sure to concentrate on getting them right. The list is long and the changes are many. From zoom spread to damage inflicted, rest assured that every weapon has been modified.

These changes and fixes are just the tip of the iceberg. As we move toward the game’s release, we continue to improve the game every single day.

EA: Medal of Honor must sell 3 million for sequel

Medal of Honor executive producer Greg Goodrich has revealed that the Afghanistan-based shooter will have to shift three million copies at retail if it’s to see any chance of a potential sequel.

Speaking during an interview with the New York Times, Goodrich conceded that if the upcoming series reboot doesn’t achieve the number, “I’m not going to be able to do another one.”

Elsewhere, the article reveals that the game originally carried the subtitle of Anaconda, which was named after a failed operation. However, Electronic Arts ultimately shelved the idea, as the publisher believed it would “hit a little too close to home,” and would have “put a sour taste in our brothers’ mouths.”

It also quotes a Medal of Honor designer stating that EA wants gamers to feel as though they are actually in Afghanistan, as opposed to being in a movie like Modern Call of Duty: Warfare.

Medal of Honor is scheduled for release on PS3 October 15.
