Earlier today, we restocked our METAL GEAR SOLID soundtrack, and tomorrow we’re back with new posters from artist Oliver Barrett for two of the game’s sequels, one officially recognized in the game’s canon ... and the other a bit more of a black sheep of the family: METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE, and SNAKE’S REVENGE.
Hideo Kojima’s METAL GEAR espionage saga is one of the most revered and celebrated video game franchises of all time. From story to gameplay, it pushed the boundaries of the medium and made Kojima one of the most exhilarating creatives in any industry. Originally released as (the first) sequel to METAL GEAR on NES in North America and Europe, SNAKE’S REVENGE was developed without the involvement of Hideo Kojima. Though now considered unofficial and not part of canon, the game exists as an interesting asterisk in the series. That same year, Kojima developed his own true sequel for the MSX2 in Japan titled METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE, and the rest is history.
Artist Oliver Barrett originally did the packaging design for our collection of Metal Gear soundtracks, and has crushed it every step of the way. We've long been asked if we were going to release posters featuring this art, so we worked with Oliver to develop and format the artwork for screenprinted posters, and are excited to finally offer this artwork for your walls.
Finally, we also worked to develop exclusive colorway variants of these posters that will be available exclusively via the Official Konami Shop at a later date. Be sure to keep an eye out for that later this year.
