Moving on from steelbooks

Hi everyone,
I guess a time comes in everyone's life when they must move on and invest their time and money in the more important things in life. I am looking to settle down this year (iA) and thus have to part with my beloved hobby (at least for now).

I'll still frequent this site (but just not as much) since I'll only be tempted to buy more steelbooks.

It was a lot of fun tracking down SBs from all around the world, making friends from all over and giving to the community.

Stay safe, stay sound. And spend wisely.

@CyberAthlete I couldn't help but realise that the thread was suddenly bumped from January 2014:cautious: :p Well time fly's and at least we know you stuck to your guns

I do agree though, this year has been tough on the wallet and I cannot/will not repeat that again. I was starting to fall out of love with collecting in the summer, after so many back catalogue/ re- releases coming out. I decided to concentrate on such things as Play.com releases and entering the Nova/Kimchi and Asian market has also been fun.

I am now onto collecting some box sets and limited edition sets, so that's been nice too - that's also helped me from steering away from steels. I have a wife and two children, so I always make sure they are happy and provided for, before I even consider a purchase. On a positive note, it has made me very easy to buy for at Christmas and Birthdays :yess;

I hope you are able to find a cost effective/happy medium with your collecting. When its no longer fun for me, I will gladly stop collecting too :)

Best Wishes @CyberAthlete
I have also decided that once the preorders & Group Buys that i have left are done, then i am also going to knock it on the head.
I pretty much have all my favourite movies in Steelbook form thats without the media/digibooks i have & boxsets.
I've been at this stage before but i got sucked back in but looking at how much i've spent in the last year i can't keep that up.

Hey man I hear ya. It's funny I got my friends into this hobby and then myself quit it. I have other hobbies as well which I had neglected (like my photography and music listening) that I had neglected as I was spending $1000's every year on movies. Now that I have stopped buying movies (I went from buying 60-90 a year) to 12-15 a year, I find I have a lot more money for all the other things I want to enjoy. I just redbox a film when I have too. The only time I may buy a steelbook and only if it's an absolute must have title or a film I will long cherish for many many years to come.

I am still around, just not as much as I used to be. But still love watching movies :)

Long time no post :)

I am great buddy, hope you are too. In line with my previous post, I stuck to my guns and trimmed down my collecting habits. In fact, I have sold a lot of steelbooks now and watch or rent a movie on line, rather than take a random punt and purchase a steel, only to find I will never watch it again!

Loving the Nova, Blu Fans, Plain Archive and a sprinkle of Kimchi - but only when I enjoy the movie.

Still enjoy collecting, but not as addicted as I used to be. I found collecting had started to make me a little selfish with my time, my priorities and even financially. I have found a nice balance now and I must admit, it feels good.

All the best, Ryu
