I thought I would tell you about my recipe for "Bolognese" spaghetti sauce. With apologies to any Italians reading this.;)
The recipe is quite strange and not actually bolognese, more like a kind of Chilli con carne sauce really - anyway - here goes.

Fry 3 cloves of chopped garlic in a large wok (yes wok!) until golden.
add 500g/1lb minced/ground beef and brown.
add 1 vegetable stock cube, 1 beef stock cube, ground black pepper.
add a small (330ml/12 floz) bottle of beer or lager.
add about 1 dessert spoon each of dried mixed herbs, basil, oregano and dill.
add 600g/22oz tomato frito (or passata or chopped tomatoes tho' frito is best)
add 4 dessert spoons brown sauce (ideally "HP" or "Daddies" sauce!)
add large splash of soy sauce
add several splashes of Worcester sauce.
a few drops of tabasco sauce (I normally put in 6 drops).
Simmer for 10 minutes

Serve on top of large bowls of freshly cooked pasta. We particularly like it with "trottole" or some giant macaroni the name of which escapes me.

As you can see it is not exactly suitable for vegetarians!

My partner and I have this every Tuseday for lunch!
Let me know what you think.;)

This sounds really good Martin, but what is brown sauce (ideally "HP" or "Daddies" sauce!)) Is it a bar-B-Q sauce?

You could try BBQ sauce, but its not really the same. Wikipedia has info about it and it is possible to buy it online for example from Amazon.com here

The HP stands for Houses of Parliament! ;)
