saw yesterday, liked it enough to want a physical copy and interested in a director's cut, since i felt it could of been better than good, to me.

I missed this, I didnt know about it dropping last night or was it lunchtime? I've been having lunch and watching the darts.
Dropped midnight last night HMV and earlier today Zavvi and Amazon.
Word got around quickly. Proper shadow drop. Even Amazon have sold out.

rarewaves still has pre order open
not sure if they are cutting orders if they over sell or not but ordered in case.
sadly they take payment up front.
if hmv or amazon becomes available I will cancel rarewaves

Glad Amazon sold out. Hopefully means they only sold their allotment. Now just to hope the gift wrap option protects during shipping
Amazon UK still available to pre order for those with delivery address in both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland

UK it's delivery address that is based in England/Scotland/Wales that will show as not available at the moment.

For some members/vistors that might not be aware
Amazon has amazon fulfillment centre in Republic of Ireland that handles orders only for Northern and Republic of Ireland delivery address
That fulfillment centre on some new releases get allocated stock separately which is why can be still available to pre order for a delivery address in Ireland but show as unavailable for other UK/International address

Note
Members based in Republic of Ireland
when doing pre orders on Amazon UK wait until actual release date is listed so price shows in Euro € at checkout
For releases with no release date listed yet or showing a december placeholder date checkout will only do orders in £
If price is only showing GPB £ curency at checkout and in your order history failed payment can happen when they try to take payment
Best to wait until any orders you do it's in € to avoid a failed payment issue

This is Robert Eggers best film to date for me and I'm a huge fan of his. Just got out the cinema and can't stop thinking about it! His version of Count Orlok is without question one of the most unforgettable and coolest takes on the 'Vampyr' legend put to screen. Not your typical bloodsucker but an utterly vile creature who oozes menace. Man I loved this!!

I'm sorry, but the hype over this film is so over the top. It wasn't a bad film by any stretch - but jeez, the ridiculous over-acting... we had a sold out theater for the first screening and entire ROWS of people howling with laughter at the acting at some moments. And mind you, these were people going to see this on opening night looking forward to it. Then the f*ing screams all the time paired with the jump scares, after the fourth time I just rolled my eyes because it's like, I get it dude, very sudden extreme close ups of this vampire MFer with ear-numbing screams put over it are pretty scary, but in the end incredible cheap methods to scare an audience.
I'm gonna give it a second chance when it drops on physical, but from the first viewing this just didn't have the 'soul' and character that other gothic horror films, even by the same director, have. It was shot on film, but it felt incredibly sterile and soulless, kinda like a generic netflix movie, and a lot of people are probably gonna disagree here, at least from what I read. Gonna give it a second try, but left the theater pretty disappointed.

It's supposed to be melodramatic, incorporating filmic and acting homage to the silent era and Murnau's original Nosferatu from the 1920s.
Even with the dialogue, I can see from the trailer that the actors have exaggerated their expressions.

Every film from the silent era would seem over the top to a modern audience nowadays.

Go back and watch Nosferatu or The Cabinet of Dr Caligari or Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans and you'll see that Eggers choices will make total sense.

People obviously thought it was a straight up modern gothic horror, like Crimson Peak or something.
It's not.
Don't people read reviews anymore?

I actually didn't think it was gonna be a modern horror flick at all, I mean it's Robert Eggers - I did expect this to be a full on classical thing, which is why I was so disappointed. To me it felt like a modern horror film with the mere facade of a classical film. In the end the overall vibe just didn't land for me, it's very hard to describe. All of the people in this can act, but especially Nicolas Holt and Aaron Taylor Johnson performed in a way where I questioned their acting talent, even though they are obviously good at acting in other projects. It felt like they were constantly thinking about the type of movie they were making and tried to act 'cool' and 'deep' for this (50 million dollar) "art house" project. Not to mention one or two absolutely hilarious moments where Lily Rose Depp was possessed. Like I said, it did exactly not feel like an homage to these older classical films to me, but an outright modern horror thing with 'classical horror' paint thrown on it.
