By Popular demand I have created this thread. Share your tips, tricks, tweaks, shareware, freeware, etc.

Just like in the Mac thread IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO POST KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!

Here's a URL that I check out often. They tend to hand out free software, sometimes good sometimes just bunch of junk.

Also, here's a tip for viewing your spreadsheets in different windows. Meaning two different instances of Excel.

Steps:
1. Open My Computer
2. Go to Tool (menu on top of the window)
3. Go to Folder Options (see screenshot "Folder Options"
4. Select File Types tab (see screenshot "File Types")
5. Scroll down until you find XLS
6. Highlight XLS and select Advanced (see screenshot Advanced)
7. Uncheck "browse in same window"
8. Highlight Open
9. Select Edit
10. A new window will appear (see screenshot Open - Edit)

Under "Applications used to perform action" make sure you have this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE" "%1" (Add this exactly as you see it!)

^ Originally this looks like this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE" /e just replace /e with "%1"

Erase everything in "DDE Message" box and "DDE Application not running" box

Under "Application" in the box make sure Excel is typed in. Under "Action" box make sure %Open is typed in.

I have only tested this on Office 2003 on Windows XP, not sure if it works on Vista.

Oh yeah you said you had a hackintosh didn't you? ok, well that's cool, but doesn't really look worth the trouble :)

Good stuff though Cali.

It runs just like XP on it... maybe a lil slower.. just have the cool toolbar at the bottom, which you can run without having a mac...

how long have your PC's lasted you?

I have an alienware desktop I bought back in 2004 that is still going strong and pretty fast.

Also I have an Asus laptop from 2008 that had to be sent in for a new GPU and something else (all in warranty), but other than that its been a great computer to have. I hope it lasts me through school, as with the desktop.

Just wondering how long you guys wait to get a new PC. I think 5+ years for a desktop aint too bad.

I can't stand having the same system for more than 2 1/2 years. :) I need upgrades every now and then :scat: but my sister gets the old systems I dispose :) so I'd say they last at least 6 and going to 7 years now :) (self made too!)

I installed Windows 7 Professional x64 and wow my system is so much faster! Obviously there's some stuff on W7 that needs work a few bugs here and there, but definitely miles ahead of Vista!
