‘Pacific Rim 2′ Pre-Production Halted; August 2017 Release Date Delayed Indefinitely

NooooOOOOOOO!!!!!

"Legendary wanted to produce a sequel to del Toro’s Pacific Rim, which was made under the Warners deal and turned into one of those films that grosses a lot ($411 million worldwide) while being so costly that a follow-up isn’t a sure thing. Sources say Legendary liked that the original performed exceptionally well in China, where the company is heavily invested, but for now the project — which had been ramping up to make a release date in August 2017 — has been halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all)."
This is fu**ing bullsh*t! :banghead: :( this truly ruined my day...

I hate to say it @bloodsnake007 - but it is Kong:Skull Island and Godzilla 2 that are single-handedly killing Pacific Rim 2. Since Skull Island moved to Warner- they are thinking of the Kong vs. Godzilla and Monster Island spinoffs.
Which is really dumb to me- because Pacific Rim is killing it over Godzilla and Kong in action figures and toys (which the studio heavily factors into these decisions).

As much as I would love to see a second film there was a lot of rubbish in the middle and bad acting Throughout in the first one (it was only the action that was any good) and id rather him just do a hellboy 3

The economy of China has been messing with a lot of things lately, so since Legendary has a lot of Chinese connections, this is to be somewhat expected.

But dämn if it isn't crappy news!

According to Spinoff Online, GDT's not giving up yet...

Lower your pitchforks and remove yourself from your Jaeger. No need to start wrecking stuff just yet. While reports came yesterday that production has halted indefinitely on “Pacific Rim 2,” news comes today from director Guillermo Del Toro, who either didn’t get the memo or does not care, that he’s still working on the film.

“We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks,” Del Toro toldEntertainment Weekly. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it.”

Del Toro further went on to say that the delay is only temporary and that he may do another film in the meantime.

The 2013 sci-fi action film, depicting a near-future war between humanity and giant monsters emerging from an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific, grossed $411 million worldwide.

@C.C. 95 I know you're right :sorry: If only PR2 was also moved to WB, then a crossover between all 3 properties would be able to happen! That would be a DREAM come true! :hungry:

@vläd Crappy news in-fu**ing-deed! :banghead: :( But I think China should definitely step in and help finance this film, if it gets made, we ALL know it's gonna be a bigger hit over there!

The Pacific Rim Sequel is Still Happening
http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/618133-the-pacific-rim-sequel-is-still-happening#/slide/1
There’s some very good news today for fans of Guillermo del Toro‘s epic Kaiju showdown, Pacific Rim. Last month, it was reported that the Pacific Rim sequel had been removed from Legendary‘s schedule of upcoming films. Today, Universal Pictures has clarified the change with an official statement.

“Legendary’s ‘Pacific Rim 2,’ originally scheduled for release on August 4, 2017, will be redated at a later time,” it reads. “The filmmakers, Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having ‘Pacific Rim 2,’ the sequel to 2013’s ‘Pacific Rim,’ which generated more $411 million at the global box office, be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves. To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of ‘Pacific Rim’ so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.”

Taking the place of the Pacific Rim sequel will be Pitch Perfect 3, originally planned for release on July 21, 2017. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are already confirmed to headline the returning cast with writer Kay Cannon returning to the team to pen the next chapter.
