Plot: In the action-thriller "Public Enemies," acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp)—the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.

No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression.

But while the adventures of Dillinger's gang—later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi)—thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI."

However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.
This film is not really getting the attention it deserves i feel? Anyone looking forward to this and your thoughts?

Im really looking forward to his film. See what i mean no one has really heard of it. Depp & Bale and Mann directing whats not to like ;)

I just saw the previews on the Fast & Furious .... looks good, and I HAD heard of it before that ;) Not alot of promoting going on but they will include a new sneak peak disc inside the rereleases of casino/eastern promises/american gangster on blu-ray coming up.

I just saw this on Saturday, SWEEEEET! Lots of gunfire. I liked Depp's role alot. Starts out in Indiana too :p

i need to see this movie soon. it was filmed not too far from the city i grew up in (filmed in oshkosh, lived 15 minutes north in neenah EEK!)

the funny thing i remember is everyone freaking out because depp was in town and everyone wanted to go down to where they were shooting to see him, but no one said a lick or cared about christian bale. when they showed the previews and i saw bale was in the movie i was like "What?" :hilarious:

i remember when they were casting extras they were asking for shorter paler people because back then no one was tan and depp is pretty short i guess. so i was basically ruled out cause im part italian and im 6 foot 2 :(

you betcha! the EAA Air Show takes place right across the highway from that outlet mall. we get lots of celebrities to show up to that like travolta, harrison ford, danny glover some times.

neenah is also known for sewer cap covers (just take a look at them once, bet it says Neenah Foundry Neenah, WI ;)) and Kimberly Clark which makes kleenex and a bunch of other personal hygiene products.

so next time you wipe your butt that piece of TP may have come from my home city

:hilarious:

There wasn't any Blu-Rays available at the blockbuster so I grabbed a dvd, so obviously a setback from the get go.

The film sucked, really. I didn't really care for the way the film was shot. The jiggling camera was distracting as was the sometimes ultra-smooth and soft movement of the characters. I didn't feel very attached to any of the characters.. Depp did what he does and that was the only character that actually succeeded in convincing me he could be real. Just really lacked everywhere.

The sound on the DVD was awful. I had to crank my theater up just so I could listen to the dialogue which there was noticeable dips and swings in the audio level. I confirmed this wasn't my setup because Terminator Salvation plowed straight through my living room without letting up until the end. I'm not sure how blu-ray could have fixed this movie.

I really liked the story and the concept, but the way the film was shot distracted me and the audio just ruined the whole experience for me. I felt like I was watching the movie just so I could say I saw it. I don't know how this movie was in theaters but I'm guessing it was way better than this.
