In 1996, Nicolas Winding Refn changed Danish cinema forever with his debut film,
Pusher. With
Pusher, Refn set a new standard for what Danish film could be, launching himself onto the international film scene. The two sequels,
Pusher II and
Pusher III, completed the trilogy, which is now considered an iconic work that continues to inspire filmmakers worldwide.
At the same time, presented here in a newly restored version, is director Poul Nyrup’s forgotten youth films. This trilogy from the 1960s, which also portrays life on the fringes of society, is an important yet often overlooked part of Danish film history and shares a kinship with the
Pusher trilogy in its uncompromising depiction of marginalized lives.
