*PLEASE NOTE: This list is a 'guide' only and compiled based on a variety of factors including community 'feedback' and 'suggestions'. Steelbook collecting is HIGHLY SPECULATIVE, and different collectors have different ideas of 'rarity', 'limited', 'sought after', and related terms-all of which may change at the drop of a hat with re-releases, or new info.

Please visit the Steelbook forum, if you have more detailed questions regarding specific titles, and their 'current' status, as this list is 'dynamic' and changes over time. *

I posted this in another forum before but I prefer this one, so I try again here. This is an ongoing list that combines a variety of factors that may contribute to the scarcity or rarity of these Steelbooks.-Sirjump

We started off with a "ranked" list, but as many folks may rank items differently, a general "resource" list of harder to find Steelbooks/Rare titles helps the community more. Feel free to comment so we can consider adding or subtract. -Digitalbabe

:scat:Keep sharing your thoughts & together we can help the list evolve!:)

Possible criteria as to what makes a steelbook rare/hard to find:

* General interest in movie
* Availability at retailer & exclusivity
* Print run
* Country of origin & region code
* Steelcase design
* (Initial) price
* Individually numbered items
* Print Errors
* Hype
* Price on 3rd party marketplaces

Ironman FS is not difficult to find either.

I don't know many collectors that have a spare IM FS selling for a low price, do you? If your gonna say that every steelbook isn't rare.

We should just leave the Chinese Iron Packs, Gladiator Taiwan, Le Grande Bleu and T2 2.0 and a few others on the 'rare' list.

Sunny and all, this list is 'dynamic' and will be updated periodically. What is 'rare' or 'hard to find', 'scarce' etc to one person may not be exactly the same, as it is to another. The OP title includes 'Rare' and hard(er) to find items, and over time this will change. As the mods and staff are able to, we will react to shifting patterns that occur all of the time, in acquiring these various editions, and update the list. This thread is open to considerations and suggestions,as always. Any items that are repeatedly suggested and or are new to to the 'scarce' or 'harder to find' criteria will be considered and added. And over time, some other items may be removed. The list 'flexes' and is not fixed. It's meant to be a 'guide' only, especially for new collectors who may be trying to get an idea what releases (out of 100's and 100's now released), are relatively sought after. It also provides more seasoned collectors with some guide of how many of the more rare or harder to source items, they own.

Folks, please remember that 'preferences' 'perception' and 'collectibility' are subjective terms and mean different things. Lets keep this thread fun and friendly, please:) Thanks all for chiming in-your feedback is what made and continues to build and change this unique thread! :scat:

i think the only criteria is the scarcity sale, anywhere on any support. All the criteria listed above are just the consequences. you could have added product sealed and mint.

it's that why many of them should not be listed like, halloween, ST (FS), IB (FS)...many of them can be found on ebay or elsewere but very expensive.

Many fnac releases, australian metal slipcases, some asian IP or steel (R&J, Le grand bleu, MR..) and few others are really rare.

I am going to chime in here as it has been on my mind for some time. When it comes to FNAC releases, the only time I see it as an exclusive is when the rest of France has no steelbook of that movie. I know there are fans of FNAC, but come on!!! I think its a huge mis-representation of the word exclusive.

The exclusive is the bonus item you get. many times the sticker even says what it is ... like Includes 24 page booklet. So they are advertising it correctly.

i don't know if you have well understood what he meant. Futureshop do the same and others too. So what's the problem.
But if you did, of course you r right. the only exceptions must be Wolverine and Thor i think.

I think we need to start cutting down on the 'rare' list we have here. I had a quick scan on the top and there must be something like 70 rare titles which is a lot. As so many new releases keep coming out there be so many more increases that will go on the rare list. Soon it be upto 100 by the end of next year which is a rediculous amount lol. And with so many steelz on the rare list, the question is - what actually is rare from the rare list? There are too many.

Perhaps we need to break the list down in certain categories that will help identify what type of rare steel it is, perhaps by release date or continental releases such as Asia, Europe, North America, etc.? How about breaking down the list to:
- Steelbooks
(e.g. Le Grande Bleu, T2 2.0, Iron Man FS, John Rambo DE, Gladiator TW, Wanted DE, Farewell My Cubine, Let the Bullets Fly, etc)
- Chinese Iron Packs
(Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet, ID4 error, etc)
- Viva MB
(e.g. Real Steel)
- Steel Slip cases
(e.g. The Dark Knight, T2, Gladiator, IB, etc)
- Steel Tin
(e.g Back to the Future HMV)

Or we can do this by year of release so we know what is the old stuff and the recent new stuff that is rare?

Or how about country release?

Or retailer exclusive release, such as HMV, Play.com, Amazon.de, Media Markt, FNAC, etc, etc? :)

We just need to break it down more.

it's what i was saying above.

For me the rare ones are:
French: TDK (fnac), IB (fnac), TS (fnac), Tron (fnac), Gran Torino (fnac), Hellboy (fnac), Wolverine (fnac), Ninja Assassin, Pirates, Thor, Volt

Futureshop: Watchmen with journal, Iron Man, TS, Indiana jones, I'm legend and most of bilingual steels/IP (bond, disney)

Japan: Le grand bleu, T2 V2.0

China: Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Ice Age, A-team, Knight and day, Minority Report

Australia: TDK slipcase, SPR slipcase, Gladiator slipcase, T2 slipcase, S'A slipcase, Green zone

....as i know for these countries. i will let others to complete for others countries and/or add some titles. ;)

....or maybe we should just get rid of this thread altogether so people will sell and trade based on the original retail price.:D

Hate to pick holes in this otherwise useful thread :D But,

Sweeney Todd :wtf: One of the cheapest most common steels on ebay.co.uk? For me it was a sympathy purchase. Is this with the booklet i'm guessing?

Inglourious Basterds FNAC I bought from amazon.fr, delivered for like £11? The German original is rarer/less common and in turn more $$$ so is the Canadian debossed one IMHO.

I just got 2 x Predators a few days ago from Finalnd, Discshop have only just gone OOP. It is as near as makes no difference the same steelbook.

All of these are in my collection and rank amoungst the easiest if not the cheapest to find. I've read DB's and others posts above, and agree with what was said, but really, these three?

I did consider luck, with sweeney todd it wasn't, I paid the going rate.
With IB i've had a look and it was second hand I think, but it was like new.
Predators I asked someone to send me like 2 weeks ago, and I just found out I could have got it delivered from discshop directly so :dunno:

How can you buy Inglorious Basterds FNAC from Amazon.fr unless it was from a third party seller? If it was, as above you were probably really lucky.
