*PLEASE NOTE: This list is a 'guide' only and compiled based on a variety of factors including community 'feedback' and 'suggestions'. Steelbook collecting is HIGHLY SPECULATIVE, and different collectors have different ideas of 'rarity', 'limited', 'sought after', and related terms-all of which may change at the drop of a hat with re-releases, or new info.

Please visit the Steelbook forum, if you have more detailed questions regarding specific titles, and their 'current' status, as this list is 'dynamic' and changes over time. *

I posted this in another forum before but I prefer this one, so I try again here. This is an ongoing list that combines a variety of factors that may contribute to the scarcity or rarity of these Steelbooks.-Sirjump

We started off with a "ranked" list, but as many folks may rank items differently, a general "resource" list of harder to find Steelbooks/Rare titles helps the community more. Feel free to comment so we can consider adding or subtract. -Digitalbabe

:scat:Keep sharing your thoughts & together we can help the list evolve!:)

Possible criteria as to what makes a steelbook rare/hard to find:

* General interest in movie
* Availability at retailer & exclusivity
* Print run
* Country of origin & region code
* Steelcase design
* (Initial) price
* Individually numbered items
* Print Errors
* Hype
* Price on 3rd party marketplaces

There are things going out of print and becoming rarer all the time, so updates will be continuous I should think. There are already quite a few that should be appearing on the list in the near future, including:

Conan 3D (Fnac excl w/booklet)
Sucker Punch (JB HiFi excl w/art cards)
Watchmen: Dir Cut (Ca, FS)
Terminator: Renaissance (Fr, Fnac excl)
Fountain (Fr)
Wall-E (Ca, FS)
Minority Report (Cn, iron pack)
Avatar: Extended (Jp)

That's just a handful but there'll be many more joining the list over the next year, I'm sure ;)

Fight Club

I strongly disagree with the comment that Fight Club is not rare. Used copies are available, but there are only 2 new copies left on amazon and I'm very sure that these will sell in the next couple of days as well. It's a situation that strongly reminds me of 1408 and Zombieland about 6 months ago: Those were also still available new for 40€ and look where they are now. Trust me, new copies of Fight Club will sell for 80+ Euros by the end of 2012!

I 100% agree. Fight Club is a big time under-rated and rare steelbook. Like Lutzo said once there all gone I expect the same thing to happen as it did with Zombieland and 1408. Just like Fight Club right now Zombieland and 1408 lingered around at cheap prices on Amazon Germany from 3rd party sellers that wouldn't ship to North America and eventually they all sold out and boom; price increase. I would know because I tried getting Zombieland for the longest time from 3rd party Amazon Germany sellers and either they wouldn't ship to NA or they wanted 20-25 euro to ship one steel book, lol! Eventually it sold out and the price started to rise like crazy!

The price will go up and people will trying to chase it down at that time. Also the fact that its the only and the first bluray steelbook for the movie will keep it a rare stellbook over time IMO. Although the included blu is the old transfer which is a shame because I have the new re-master and it is indeed much better.

Should there be a "bubbling under" list, for example for those that have been on it, or a pre-qualifying list. Just a thought.

Hey Surf, thanks for the thought. Unfortunately these things change constantly, so having different levels of lists is not maintainable. I usually wait for several days for numerous comments regarding one Steel, to see what the overall consensus is on any one Steel. Depending on where you are, for instance, or whether you want or care for a mint/vs used copy, answers fluctuate widely. Plus some retailers do not ship overseas, etc, which is why the list includes a 'broad spectrum' of 'hard(er)' to get Steels, as new collectors are always joining in the fray.

Thanks for everyone's input! :scat:

digitalbabe, I agree with this one. I have been looking for it for 3 months now, and I couldn't find it on eBay...I even search completed auction, and it's quite hard to find the one with the biohazard sticker included. The re-release is common without the sticker, but the sticker is quite rare.

I Think I am Legend Amazon.de 1st release ( with Tattoo ) is rare !

Hey May-not even sure I knew that Biohazard thing was in there, LOL! I'll have to see if I own the 1st one, to see if I have the Biohazard sticker. Thanks:)

I spent sleepless night, reading, understanding, etc of blu-banner oldies and found out about the sticker. It is quite tiring, but fun :)

If you take a picture of the front, then I can make a guess :) I'm not an expert, but I read about certain things that will show it came from amazon.de.
