*PLEASE NOTE: This list is a 'guide' only and compiled based on a variety of factors including community 'feedback' and 'suggestions'. Steelbook collecting is HIGHLY SPECULATIVE, and different collectors have different ideas of 'rarity', 'limited', 'sought after', and related terms-all of which may change at the drop of a hat with re-releases, or new info.

Please visit the Steelbook forum, if you have more detailed questions regarding specific titles, and their 'current' status, as this list is 'dynamic' and changes over time. *

I posted this in another forum before but I prefer this one, so I try again here. This is an ongoing list that combines a variety of factors that may contribute to the scarcity or rarity of these Steelbooks.-Sirjump

We started off with a "ranked" list, but as many folks may rank items differently, a general "resource" list of harder to find Steelbooks/Rare titles helps the community more. Feel free to comment so we can consider adding or subtract. -Digitalbabe

:scat:Keep sharing your thoughts & together we can help the list evolve!:)

Possible criteria as to what makes a steelbook rare/hard to find:

* General interest in movie
* Availability at retailer & exclusivity
* Print run
* Country of origin & region code
* Steelcase design
* (Initial) price
* Individually numbered items
* Print Errors
* Hype
* Price on 3rd party marketplaces

digitalbabe, I agree with this one. I have been looking for it for 3 months now, and I couldn't find it on eBay...I even search completed auction, and it's quite hard to find the one with the biohazard sticker included. The re-release is common without the sticker, but the sticker is quite rare.

I Am Legend Amazon.de 1st print is IMHO much rarer than FS steelbook, FS one pops up on ebay every now and then, the trick with the German one is to identify the 1st issue LE with the Biohazard sticker inside which is almost impossible, now that is very rare and sought after :naughty:

I have posted some pictures of my sealed copy on IAL thread here, I've always liked it more than FS one dunno why :D

It's one of my first ever preorders from Amazon.de late 2008, cost me EUR 29,59 (excluding P&P), preorder it together with Death Proof/Hancock/Sex And The City/Pans Labyrinth :naughty:

I have to agree with you. I kept eyeing on it for awhile and I couldn't find any. I got mine from walruswarrior and he said he bought it at the same time like you did. It even have the blu-ray circle sticker in the front. Also, the blu-ray logo is position correctly. The re-release did not include the blu-ray circle sticker. Also, the blu-ray logo is shifted upward touching the edge.

I so much like this one better than the futureshop one. I bought the re-release version and I'm not impressed with it. The original futureshop blu-banner is XTRA LARGE :)

I'm very happy to join the I Am Legend 1st Edition club :) Wow..this came out in 2008...4 years ago...time should fly :)

Hey May-I checked but I had the feeling it was dumped during a sweep of getting rid of movies I never loved to begin with (only purchased bc they were in a Steelbook years ago). :hilarious: Thanks for posting the tidbit about the sticker-very cool & nice to know for those still 'on the hunt'!

Le Grande Bleu *** Steelbook

Hi all I'm new to the forums, I've started getting into collecting BLU ray Steelbooks and blu ray Criterion movies

Does anyone where I can a steelbook Japanese edition of le grande bleu

Thank you

Sweeper-welcome to the site. Ebay or private trade (after 30 posts you can post a 'want' thread. Otherwise this one may run you several $100 at this point, as it's OOP. Good luck and we hope you stay and enjoy the site:)

Thanks for replying guys. I did see a copy on eBay last week on bid I didn't realize it was so rare :(

I have the Comic Con Sucker Punch Blu Ray Sealed would that be of equal value for a trade?

At least 3x it's value bud and welcome abroad :scat:

sweeper sorry but i´d say you would have to trade an Iron Man FS or John Rambo with tattoo for le grande bleu. Sucker Punch Comic Con is a really nice Steel but you would have to trade 3 or 4 of them for le grande bleu. It is really super rare!

Only Steelbook of Le Grande Bleu is Japanese and it was never sealed. As other members have pointed out it is super rare and will probably run you several hundred $$$$'s sadly.

Just wondering, but what makes 10, 000 BC Crackle Laquer more rare than Clash of the Titans Crackle Laquer? Were they not released at the same time and in the same quantity? I certainly could be wrong, though.

Not sure if they were released at the same time but the 10,000 B.C. version went out of stock way before the Clash of the Titans version. If you check the thread on the Titans steelbook, the crackle lacquer edition was still available for purchase on Amazon.de until recently. I take that to mean there were more copies of it made or the 10,000 title is more popular.

I heard Le Grande Bleu early release is not sealed, but later release is sealed.
A friend said he has a sealed copy. Can someone confirm this?
