Ha damn, I hadn't realised there was such a big age difference. She was pretty cute though... even with a name like Weena

Weena is a strange name but when you look at what modern c celebrities call their kids it's tame.....
I remember years ago when I was watching my laserdisc going either she's a lot older than she looks or she really is young and sure enough she was only 17 when she made the film.
I can see why they left open what happens to H.G. Wells and Weena in the film especially when you realise the age difference.
To be fair I couldn't see the morlocks being made too scary in the 1960 version but they are still pretty creepy and nasty and the revelation as to their nature must have creeped out a 1960's audience way before The Hills have Eyes...
My only complaint about the film. I wish it would get a proper Criterion/ Arrow restoration. One of the few times the Warner Archives let the fans down.....

Talking about age differences made me realise that there a lot of films around that time in which there was a big age difference between the romantic leads. A good example is Broken Arrow with James Stewart in which he's nearly 30 years older than the girl he's after..... Seems to be pretty the order of the day in the 50's and 60's. TV was just as bad. If you look at the ITV reruns of On the Buses Stan and Jack are in their 50's yet chasing after 20 year olds.....

Well... I was looking forward to this one. And despite some well shot sequences- the overall film is a narrative catastrophe.
The plot is muddled, too many scenes are redundant to the flow of the story, and characters are underdeveloped and hollow.

Also- this one is more of a personal pet peeve, but- whenever the "powerful" and "awe-inspiring" scenes of Arthur unlocking the power of Excalibur occur- it's usually a noticeably CGI body double being followed by camera movements that are so quickly cut and jerky that all sense of tension and spatial awareness are thrown out the window- making these large- climactic moments seem really.... flaccid.

@C.C. 95 I feel like i need to watch this again. For starters, i was actually interrupted during the movie (even though i actually set aside time for it) so there was a gap. And i absolutely hate doing that to a movie. My only beef with it is that it actually felt like watching excerpts from a bigger picture; i dont mean that in a bad way; like reading a few pages from a bigger book, but the important or relevant pages that's enough to understand the story. I dont even know if i'm making sense right now  Like I wanted to see more; which is a good thing because from that i know that i enjoyed it. So yea, i'm a bit conflicted here; hence my ratings are not on the high end. So i'm hoping to watch the director's cut in the future. I believe you recommended that i either avoid the SE cut or watch it last. Other than that, i can see where almost all other alien movies copied some of their ideas from :p Thanks for a great recommendation

My favorite of CEOTK cut is the original cut. Also, I think it is the best score John Williams ever did.
Yeah, please watch again under optimum conditions!
BTW - did you hear?

Haha MAY BE IF Matrix didnt exist...may be
There always has to be some joker of a critic who has to go against the grain when he has to know he is full of it!
"Forget Inception! Skyline is the Sci-Fi that will rock your world in 2010!"
"Forget Jackson's Middle Earth saga! Warcraft is the real stuff!"
"Excalibur is yesterday's news! Long live Guy Ritchie's King Arthur!"

True, but some might say he's getting paid to say stuff like that...

On a side note, I actually love every movie from that list :D(minus Excalibur because i havent seen it yet). I thought King Arthur was great; sad it was a box office bomb though.
