Skydance Exec: Bringing Jack Reacher To TV Is “Realistic” In Current Landscape

Skydance Media President and Chief Operating Officer Jesse Sisgold was on a Produced By panel today titled “The Keys to the Kingdom: Financiers & Distributors.” In discussing Skydance’s streaming and television ventures, Sisgold brought up the Jack Reacher series and why Skydance is going the streaming/TV route.

Tom Cruise played the title character in two films. The 2016 sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back under-performed, so a third film was unlikely.

“We’re just being realistic about the landscape,” Sisgold said. “For us, those straight down the middle, awesome action thrillers in that mid-range budget, they just seem to lend themselves to an episodic experience. It’s not the old days [of television], where you had to limit it down to a pretty low scale.”

Somehow a lead white pumped up guy that kicks ass, isn't apologizing for crap or humiliated by 'minorities' has become such a rarity, I must get excited for it just on that basis alone...

Episode 5 was good, although at this point I don't know if Swan is actually alive still, whether he's really pulling the shots or maybe there using his name as a patsy so they can keep the hands clean of it all. Has Swan turned that much so as to take out his old squad with snipers at a funeral? I'm hooked, can't wait for episode 6. :thanks:

Prime Video today announced that it has renewed the hit series Reacher for a fourth season. The second season was the most viewed 2023 release on Prime Video. The third season is set to debut in 2025. Additionally, last week Prime Video announced a series order for a Reacher spinoff, The Untitled Neagley Project, starring Maria Sten. Previous seasons of Reacher are available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

In the third season of the action-packed drama series starring Alan Ritchson, based on the seventh book in Lee Child’s global best-selling series, Persuader, Reacher must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past. As previously announced, Maria Sten will return for season three, joined by Anthony Michael Hall, Sonya Cassidy, Brian Tee, Johnny Berchtold, Robert Montesinos, Daniel David Stewart, and Olivier Richters.

Reacher has become a phenomenon that continues to resonate with our global customers beyond our wildest expectations and we are thrilled to bring the series back for an additional season,“ said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “We are looking forward to more action and adventure from the immensely talented team behind the series including Nick Santora, Alan Ritchson, Lee Child, Skydance, and CBS Studios.”

Based on the novels by Lee Child, who is an executive producer on the series, Reacher is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Skydance Television, and CBS Studios. Reacher is written for television by Emmy-nominated writer Nick Santora (FUBAR, Prison Break), who also executive produces and serves as showrunner. In addition to Santora and Child, Ritchson will serve as an executive producer, along with Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, and David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance. Carolyn Harris and Kenny Madrid are the executives-in-charge of the series for Skydance Television.
